'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Ravenclaw house not a creature was stirring, not even Luni's mouse. The students had long gone to bed, excited to see what Christmas would bring.
Luni Patil was sound asleep in her bed, burrowed beneath her blankets as her mouse Chipper slept by her head. Her four other roommates were fast asleep, dreaming of what presents they would receive come morning.
Of course, Luni didn't really care about Christmas or the presents she would get. She enjoyed giving gifts out; there were about ten of them hidden beneath her bed that she would give to her friends during breakfast. She suspected her friends got her presents in return, they had the previous four years.
Why would fifth year be any different?
Their gift giving tradition would be upheld and, hopefully, so would their other ones. A certain tradition, Luni's favorite of the bunch, was having a little trouble, though. You see, she hadn't actually planned on falling asleep, it just happened. Usually she wouldn't end up going to bed until early Christmas morning or just not at all.
It seemed that, even despite her sleeping, her favorite tradition would continue on that year.
A knocking at one of the dorms windows woke one Emily Simpson from her deep sleep. As she pushed herself up, she heard the harsh whispers of "Luni! Luni, wake up!" accompany the incessant knocking.
Her eyes landed on the source of the noise as she slowly woke up. On a broomstick outside of the window between Emily and Luni's bed sat the Gryffindor boy who woke her.
He didn't notice Emily at first, but eventually he spotted her moving around out of the corner of his eye. A smile stretched across his face as he spotted the angry, tired girl. "Oh good, Simpson, you're awake. Could you get Luni up?"
"Wood, I hope you fall off your broom," Emily whispered angrily at the boy, conscious of her sleeping roommates unlike him.
"That's great. Can you please wake Luni up? Or let me? Something?" He pleaded.
The girl said nothing to the boy, only glared. After a moment of their stare-off- him begging, she glaring- Emily let out a defeated sigh.
"Luni," she could hear him say thank you as she attempted to wake up her roommate. "Luni wake up, you're boyfriend's here."
She groggily turned over to face Emily, barely awake, "What?"
"You're boyfriend is at the window. He's been trying to wake you up for a couple of minutes. It's annoying," Emily said as Luni pushed herself up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. The moved around the room before they landed on the one and only Oliver Wood sitting on his broom. Her eyes widened as she realized why he was there. She fell back into her bed, her hands covering her face in embarrassment as quiet "I'm sorry" 's left her lips.
Emily watched, annoyance building up inside her. Luni looked like she was going back to bed, "You better get your ass up and out of this dorm. I don't want Wood here any longer than he has to be."
"Thanks, Simpson," Oliver deadpanned before look at his girlfriend, "Luni, come on, let's go. You can apologize later."
The sixth year finally pushed herself out of bed, dragging her top blanket with her as she walked to the window. She stepped up to the ledge and grabbed Oliver's outstretched hand. Luni mounted the broom behind him, managing not to lose her blanket in the process. She pulled it tighter around herself before latching onto Oliver's waist.
Oliver looked over his shoulder at her, a glint in his eyes, "You good?"
She nodded, shivering slightly in the cold, "I'm good."
"Let's go then."
As the two flew off, Luni could faintly hear Emily latch the window shut. She didn't worry about how she'd get back into her dorm, or the fact that she left her wand sitting on her bedside table. She thought of nothing but the brisk Christmas air running it's fingers through her hair.
Her dark eyes glanced over the blurring ground, Hogwarts, and Scottish highlands as Oliver flies. They fly over the Black Lake, freezing water splashing onto their legs. The Forbidden Forest blurs into a giant green mass beneath them as they speed towards the top of the Astronomy Tower.
"What was all that?" Luni asked as her bare feet touch the tower.
"Felt like flying around for a bit." Oliver watched as she unfurled her blanket from around her and set it on the roof.
The Gryffindor and the Ravenclaw sit next to each other, wrapping the blanket around them as they look up at the night sky. Hundreds of stars twinkle down at them, watching them as they always do every Christmas Eve. The two sit there for hours, laughing and talking the whole while.
They fall into a comfortable silence as light begins to peek over from behind the mountains. They watch as the sun rises on Christmas morning, a smile on both their faces.
Oliver turns away, watching Luni as she watches the Christmas sun.
"Happy Christmas, Luni."
