This part is about the relativity and the number of occasions of the animus gene.
The animus trait is not usually dominant, and is rare, but in the tribes it seems there are different rates for occurring animi in the tribes.
For example, the Icewings had about one Animus dragon per generation(when they had animi) , then the number of the animus dragons in the icewing tribe dwindled until they were almost extinct. The Icewings breeder the animus gene into the royal line, this means only royalty has the power.
There are also the Seawings, with the largest rate of Animus dragons. They have about 1 Animus per generation also but more of a chance of having animus siblings, they also have a lower rate of dominant animus genes. They also carry it in the royal line, but they didn't breed it into the royalty, it just happened.
Then there are the Nightwings, who, inherited it(animus power) from the Icewings. They have the second most rate, because of their icewing genes (originally they had no Animus abilities). Somehow, the icewing Animus gene reacted to the Nightwings DNA and created a dominant gene for Animus abilities in the Nightwing tribe.
Then there are the Mudwings, with no recorded animi at all. But they have fireproof scales, 😅
Then there are the Skywings, who either have animus or don't, because they throw every weird baby dragon off a cliff, but at least we know they have flamescales, right?
Then the Sandwings, who have an animus about never, like ever, wait 300 years and there will be a sandwing.
And finally drawing to a conclusion, Rainwings, with no recorded animi. But who said they needed them? They've got camouflage and magical-death-spit.
And I also noticed that Queen Glacier said, "our climate is one of our best kept secrets," I think it means Icewings were not an original tribe, they were probably made different by an animus, and over thousands of years, have come to be known as a regular tribe. But this could also explain where the Icewings got the animus trait from, and the constant weather in the ice kingdom.
THANKS for reading, and please report anything weird you see(or read) in the wings of fire series.
