I woke up to a strange noise again. I opened my eyes to find Syd with his sketch book scribbling on a piece of paper. “Syd, what are you doing?” I asked.

His eyes didn’t move up from his paper, “I was sketching you.”

“While I was sleeping?” he nodded, “Syd, you can’t do that…”

“And why not? It’s my house. And you look so peaceful when you sleep.” I put my pillow over my face, covering it from him, “you’re just about as much fun as Roger is, and if you can’t tell, he isn’t that much fun.”

“Oh, stop it Syd!” I said playfully throwing the pillow at him, he smiled at me and I couldn’t help but smile back at him, “I actually would like to have a serious talk with you,” he said looking at me, “I was wondering, since Roger said you were going to be in England for a year, would you like to... I don’t know, move in with me?” I was a little confused and didn’t know what to think of it, I think he could tell I was a little unsure about this invitation, “Meg, I’m just asking because I am looking for a roommate, we get along well as friends, and you’ve spent most of your time in this apartment since you’ve been in England.”

“That’s really kind of you Syd, but…”

“I know what you’re going to say, and fuck what Roger thinks, who cares, you’re welcome to move in, I just wanted to tell you that.”

I sat and thought about it for awhile, but Syd’s intense stare at me made me feel rushed. “Thank you so much Syd, I’d love to move in with you, but please don’t wake me up this way every morning,” I joked.

“Alright, It’ll only be on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” he chuckled.

“So, would this be my room?”

“Yep, you have a bed, dresser and closet. Just the basics, but it’s nice.”

“It’s perfect, Syd. Thank you so much.”

“Do you need help moving in?” he asked.

“I really only have a few things,” I replied.

“I could still help, we’ll go after breakfast.”

“Sounds good,” I said. We got up and walked out of my new room, went to the kitchen, and ate breakfast.

Syd got a call and had to run out to meet someone, so I told him where I was staying and he said he knew which hotel I was talking about. He told me to get a head start and start packing up, then he’d meet me and help carry my stuff to his-, I mean, our place. Syd left before I even finished eating, so I took my time. I was about to leave when I heard a knock at the door, I opened it and there was Roger. “Hey Meg, is Syd home?” he asked.

“No, you just missed him. Would you like to come in?”
