“Meg, David is going to be here any minute, what are you doing? Get dressed!” Syd jokingly hollered at me. I was still in my pajamas and it was quarter to eight.

“What are you, my mother?” I mumbled rolling my eyes at him. I got up from the couch and started to drag my feet to my room.

“Hey,” he said, “this is your first real date in England, right?

“Yeah, whoopee,” I sarcastically replied.

“So, I’ll leave the flat so you two can be alone tonight…” he winked.

“Ah, Syd! I’m not that kind of girl!”

“I know how you American girls are…” he trailed off.

“No, I think you’re mistaken, that’s… no… no…”

“No really, its fine, I made arrangement to stay at Roger’s” I kind of froze in my tracks, that wouldn’t be awkward at all.

“Well that’s completely unnecessary; nothing is going to happen tonight…”

“And why not? You’re well over due; you haven’t had sex in at least six months, at least as far as I know...”

I covered my face with my hands, “I cannot believe we are actually talking about this, Syd.”

“Well, I’m not going to be here, whether you’re with someone or not.”

“You don’t have-“

“Trust me,” he said, “you’ll be glad I’m not here.”

“You clearly don’t know me that well,” I said, I went into my room and closed the door behind me. Syd knocked on the door, “Wear something sexy tonight.” Then I heard him walk off down the hall to his room. I rolled my eyes and picked out a simple, conservative dress; I didn’t want David to get the wrong impression of me.

Just as I finished doing my hair when I heard a knock at the front door, Syd rushed to answer it “Hey David!” I heard Syd say muffled through the door, “Meg’s in her room.” I heard a knock at my door, “Come in,” I said, I heard the door open and turned around to see David standing in the doorway. “Wow,” he said, “You look beautiful.”

“Thank you,” I blushed. I was actually kind of excited for tonight. Who knows, maybe things would work out with David, or maybe just help me keep my mind off of Roger for a night. “Are you ready?” he asked, I nodded, “Then shall we be on our way?” I took his hand and we walked out of my room, Syd’s eyes stayed on us the whole way to the door, “Have fun you two,” he said, “And be safe.”

“You play football, you say?” I asked David.
