We were young and wild and free

On days when 14 year old Anthony Mcpartlin and Declan Donnelly, or Ant and Dec as they are known to their friends, are not filming Byker Grove, a teen soap opera on the BBC, they like to meet up after school and on weekends to hangout. They liked to go to the book shop at the city centre to read all the football magazines and rank the Newcastle United first team players best to worst on things like fastest runner and pass accuracy or, if they had a bit of extra pocket money, see a film in the giant Warner Brothers cinema and sometimes they would go down the quayside and sit on a bench, share a box of greasy, ketchup smothered chips and just talk about the future.

One early August Saturday afternoon, in an empty field about halfway down Wolsingham road, Ant and Dec are playing football. Dec is practicing penalty shots and Ant of course is working on his goalie skills. Ant is stood between two large trees, using them as a makeshift goal, ready to knock the ball away.

Dec lined up the ball, stepped back four paces, sprinted the short distance to the ball and took one of the most impressive shots Ant has ever seen with him in the goal. The ball whizzed past Ant's ear as it sped towards exactly where the top left corner would have been had there been a real goal with a net and all. Ant stood shocked speechless at the force created by such tiny legs as Dec cheered and jumped around not believeing it himself as he never thought he was that good of a striker. Dec runs over to Ant and gives him that heart melting smile that Ant could never resist and asks

"Good, wasn't it?". Ant can't help it when he pulls him into a tight lingering hug. As Ant leans back enough to look into his gorgeous bluey-green eyes he finally regains his speech and whispers

"It was brilliant, Decs.". Ant just stands there with his Declan in his arms memorising every speck of colour in the smaller boy's eyes when his brain loses control and his heart takes over his actions. He leans in and before he knows what's happening he is kissing Dec tenderly on the lips with all the love and emotions that have built up over the months that their friendship and bond has been growing and strengthening. When Ant eventually pulls himself away from those soft lips he sees Dec's eyes are closed and lips parted ever so slightly.

Dec quickly breaks out of the trance. He can see that Ant is searching for a reaction but Dec is wearing an expressionless face as he wriggles out of Ant's embrace. Dec turns away from Ant and slowly makes his way over to the huge magnolia tree on the opposite end of the field and sits down crossleged in the dense shade provided by the flowering tree not knowing what to think or understanding how he felt. Dec later told Ant he had never even considered the possibility of Ant liking him like that. As Ant wanders over to where Dec is sat frowning, appearing to be deep in thought, he atempts to plan out his apology. However as he gets closer and closer all he can think about is that kiss how soft his lips were, the way he tasted, how he could feel Dec's heart beating against his chest but most of all how much he wanted to do it again. So as he plops down next to Dec he has no clue what to say. They both stay silent, thinking about what just happened.

Just as Ant is about to panic thinking that Dec will never want to have anything to do with him ever again, Dec slowly moves his hand toward Ant's. Ant notices this shy gesture and with a bit more confidence than Dec he takes the offered hand in his larger one and brings it up to his pink lips to gently peck the delicate, freckled, ivory skin on the back of Dec's small slightly feminine hand making Dec blush and smile softly to himself. Ant rests the joined hands on top of their touching knees intertwining their fingers as he moves. Dec looks up into Ant's enchanting green eyes for a moment before quietly, almost timidly asking

"Will you be my boyfriend, Ant?". Ant grins widely before answering very happily

"Of course Dec, I'd love to."

This is the first memory that our Ant thinks of because it's the happiest.
