Dinner time rolled in soon after I take my shower. I dressed myself in my fluffy alien pajamas and skip downstairs to devour my dad's delicious cooking.
"Hello everyone!" I chirped. "What's for dinner today?"
"Your dad's special tacos and cheese ravioli." Grandpa said excitedly, portraying his inner child. I chuckled and sat down beside him.
"Mexican and Italian together?" I questioned.
Grandpa sighed dramatically. "This family has a history of such bizzare combinations. Your grandma and I, your father and your mother, maybe you and your future partner too."
I laughed at that. "I'd be sure to keep that legacy alive, Grandpa."
Dad exits the kitchen with deliciously mouth watering tacos in his hands and I stand up to help him set the table as my Mum brings in more trays of tasty food. My siblings join us and we all dig in to devour the yummy beauties in front of our eyes.
My Mum brings out her special brownies for dessert along with vanilla ice cream (which I hate with the brownie exception) and I wet my lips causing everyone to chuckle at my eagerness.
"We have something to tell you guys about." My mum says as we all enjoy our desserts.
"Me too." Grandpa says with a mouthful.
"You go ahead, Dad." Dad says to grandpa.
"You guys first, no arguments." Grandpa finalizes. not sparing and eye contact to my parents.
"Ah, well, you see, a local storm hit Cambodian land and waters a few weeks ago. There were hundreds of deaths and the disaster has turned many homeless. So many hospitals all across the world are sending a small team of doctors as a part of campaign there to serve the humanity. From our hospital, Meera, Fredrick, Gina and I along with six nurses have been chosen as a team to go to Cambodia for a month."
I dropped my spoon as soon as I heard my father. "Y-you are going away for a m-month?" I stuttered.
Mum looked at me with a sympathetic smile. "Yes sweetie, we can't possibly deny this offer or request, whatever it is because of two very important reasons. One, the Kings will surely be going if they do, their chances at promotion increases and we can not lose from them at any case scenario."
"And second is that serving humanity is what makes us doctors. That is what we are who we are." Dad completed.
Their argument, well, not exactly an argument, was factual but I couldn't help being sad. Both my parents were doctors and they worked more hours in a day than a day originally has. I know it doesn't make any sense but my parents are always busy. I rarely got to see them while growing up which is one reason why I'm so close to grandpa. He raised me all along with my siblings. And now that my parents were going away for a month, it made me really sad. Not to forget that the place where they were going was already hit by a natural disaster.
"You should go. That's your job." Grandpa said.
My parents smiled widely. "Thank You, Dad." My father said.
"I guess." I mumbled quietly.
"Don't be sad, sweetheart. Once we're back from Cambodia, we're allowed to take a one week break. Your dad and I have planned a mini family vacation for then. I promise." My mum smiled at me.
