Looking down, Bruce let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and put his hand on his forehead, looking back on the recent conversation with him and Harvey. But, before he could become lost in his thoughts, a phone began to ring. Looking at the pocket on his coat, he realized that it was his phone that had been ringing.Bruce sighed, he'd already been dealing with enough at the moment with the situation at hand. He reached into his pocket to take out his black flip phone. Looking at the name that was displayed, he realized that it was Alfred. Almost immediately letting out a sigh of relief at seeing the name on the small screen. He quickly answered the call without a second thought.
"Alfred, where have you been?"
"No, not Alfred."
The voice said, seemingly careless, but at the same time calm. Bruce recognized this voice all too well. One he had learned belonged to only one person.
Jeremiah.
Bruce couldn't bring himself to say anything, he was speechless not in amazement but in horror. Questions ran around his head, 'how'd Jeremiah get Alfred's phone?' and 'Is Alfred okay?' Jeremiah took Bruce's silence as him listening and continued on what he was planning to say.
"I hope you didn't catch a cold in my brother's grave. I know those things aren't exactly designed for the living."
Bruce could almost see Jeremiah's smirk just by hearing his seemingly calculated voice. Bruce couldn't bring himself to reply right away. For all he knew Alfred could be suffering at the very minute, or worse he could even be dead.
"What have you done? Where's Alfred?"
He rose his voice when asking about Alfred trying to get a reaction and hopefully answers out of Jeremiah. But, instead of getting the answers he wanted, Bruce only received a reply that gave no useful information at all.
"Such anger. Some people, not me, of course, might consider that ingratitude considering all I've done for you. All i'm still doing for you."
Bruce took a moment to process his words, his eye slightly twitching along with his distressed expression before he snapped back a reply,
"You mean lying to me? Using my company to build bombs? Trying to kill me?"
His voice once again slightly raised towards the end. But Bruce, again, received close to no reaction.
"Bruce, let's get something straight, if I wanted you dead. I'd have put a bullet through your brain and left you to rot in that grave. But I meant what I said. You're my best friend. And today, i'm going to prove it to you."
Jeremiah's voice changed, showing some emotion and at the same time still seeming emotionless. Bruce didn't listen to one word he said and instead angrily replied,
"You are insane. And you killed Jim Gordon."
"And if you don't want your man-servant to die, you too will follow my instructions to the letter."
Bruce remained silent, his face grew more concerned for Alfred. Jeremiah, once again, took silence as Bruce listening.
"71 Welling Avenue, be there in an hour. Tell the police and i'll know. Just like I know that's where you are right now."
Jeremiah hung up, leaving Bruce alone with his thoughts, he took the phone down from his ear and looked towards Jerome's followers then his eyes traveled across the large room before leaving for the location given to him. Bruce headed towards the location, since Alfred was missing and he didn't bring his car he had to use a cab to get there. Bruce knew that he couldn't do this alone so he ended up calling Selina while he was in the cab.
Once they met and got to the building the two decided to approach the building behind a semi truck, in case there were people outside the building.
"Jeremiah's followers must have taken Alfred while I was at the cemetery."
"I bet he put up a fight."
Selina said while checking below the semi truck, making sure nothing was under it. The both of them were on high alert, the closer they got to the building the more likely they were to run into something dangerous. After a few seconds of awkward silence, Bruce attempted to start a conversation again.
"Thanks again for meeting me, Selina."
"Sure."
Selina said trying to signal to Bruce that she was too focused on the matter at hand to actually have a conversation. But, Bruce not taking the hint, continued to talk.
"I didn't have anyone else to call. I know it's asking a lot. So, I was just really-"
"Bruce, I'm gonna be here whenever you need me."
Selina said with a sigh, slightly annoyed at how oblivious Bruce was and continued walking ahead of Bruce nearing the end of the semi truck. She came to a stop at the end of the truck, still hiding behind the side of it.
"Okay, that's the address. I don't see anyone though. That could be a trap, right?"
Selina said, unsure about what to do next. It could be a trap, or there could really be nothing there.
"I don't know."
Selina looked around, not moving from her spot. Bruce only looked at the eerie building, he swallowed, becoming slightly nervous starting to wondering what Jeremiah had planned for him and what happened to Alfred.
"Jeremiah could have killed me at the cemetery. He wants something out of me."
"Like what? To be your best friend?"
Bruce ignored Selina's sarcasm and was reminded of the phone call he received from Jeremiah only an hour ago. Jeremiah did say that he was Bruce's best friend but, Bruce didn't believe a word of it.
"Trap or not, if Alfred's in there, I need to find out."
They decided to enter the building separately, Selina entering from the roof and Bruce entering from the front. Selina headed towards a pole leading to the roof and began to climb it, leaving Bruce to enter the front of the building on his own.
