Jack Frost was surfing. Lying flat on the board he caught sight of the wave and started to paddle the board foward with his arms. His muscles strained, but in a good way. The wave was big, bigger than he'd ever surfed, but it didn't faze him. He caught it. The wave started to foam at the top. Jack pushed himself upright and slid his right foot behind him. The water brushed past him as the wave broke.....
DRINNNNNNNNNNGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The real Jack Frost woke up to his alarm. He slammed his fist down on the top of it and the brash ringing stopped. Groaning, he sat up slowly and ran his fingers through his already tousled slivery white hair. He threw back the covers and padded over the threshold to his slightly crooked wardrobe.
Soon, he was kitted out in his customary blue hoodie and knee length black and white shorts. He trooped down the rickety stairs of his apartment to wake his sister. He pushed open the white door to her room and saw that she was sleeping peacefully.
He knew that it was hard for her at school without parents, but he did his best to fill in the role of parental brother. Smiling wistfully, he paused, and decided to give her some more time to sleep. Jack closed the door as quietly as he could and proceeded across to the kitchen to make breakfast. Light burst through the shabby window as he drew back the blue curtains. Pictures of giant waves and surfers decorated the small room.
After a hasty breakfast of eggs and bacon he walked over to the front door. Lying at the bottom of the door was a letter. As he picked it up curiously he saw that it was addressed to him;
Jackson Frost
16B Terrapurse Place
Jack had entered his name into The Surfers Open. He loved surfing, and everything about it. His most prized possesion was his surf board and if he lost it, well......
Fingers trembling, he slit open the paper. This is what he had been waiting for his whole life! If he got in, if he won, he could buy a real house for him and Emma, a car, better education, anything! His heart was pounding as he grabbed the letter from inside the envelope. He started to read;
Dear Mr Frost,
We are pleased to inform you that, due to your impressive performance this season, you have been accepted into this years Surfers Open. Please arrive at Imperial Beach at least 2 days before 17th October to register.
We hope to see you soon, best of luck,
Surfers Open Admissions
Jack let out a long breath he didn't know he'd been holding and grinned in delight. His blue eyes sparkled with happiness. He spun on the spot and ran the length of the hall yelling;
"EMMA! EMMA! EMS!"
He wrenched open the door to her room and sprinted to her bed. She was sitting up and yawning.
"This better be good Jack," She said to him.
"Better then good," He replied, hardly able to contain his excitement. Emma realised something, seeing his insanely happy face. Only one thing could make him this happy since...
"You got in?" She whispered.
"You bet I did!" He yelled. She squealed in delight and threw herself into his open arms. Jack swung her round and round, still grinning. He set her down on the carpet and sighed.
"What's wrong?" She asked, seeing his fallen face.
"Well, thing is," He began,"I'll need a helper to bring along, you know anyone?"
Emma smiled at him.
"I think I do,"
"You wanna come along as my plus one?" He said to her, waiting nervously for her answer.
"Well.....maybe not," She said, looking down at the floor.
"Oh," Jack said sadly, unconsiously picking at the hem of his sleeve, "I understand, of course, it's not your thing and you've got school and..,"
"Of course I want to come you dummy!" She shouted at him, smiling once again.
"You do!?" He looked at her, hardly breathing.
"Always," She told him, "This is your moment, and I want to be there with you," Jack felt tears forming and brushed them away quickly. He engulfed her in a huge bear hug.
"Thank you," He whispered to her.
Meanwhile....
Elsa Hail took the letter that was addressed to her with quivering hands. Her sister was behind her, wrapped in a furry green dressing gown.
"It's here, isn't it?" Anna asked her. Elsa nodded in reply.
"Well, go on! Open it!" Anna said. She knew that bodyboarding was her sisters life. It meant everything to her, and she was immensley good at it.
Anna watched Elsa rip it open and unfold the letter. She stood on tiptoe to try and see what was written on it. Not long after, Elsa passed the paper over her shoulder to Anna, her face hidden.
Anna read;
Dear Miss Hail,
We are pleased to imform you that, due to your tremendous wins this season, you have been accepted into this years Boarders Open. Please register at Imperial Beach at least 2 days before 17th October.
We await your arrival and wish you luck,
Boarders Open Admissions.
Elsa had always been able to hide her emotions well, but now, as she turned round, her pale face was lit up by delerious happiness. Tears of joy leaked out of both the sisters eyes as they embraced. Anna dropped the letter on the floor and whisper-yelled;
"Elsa, i'm coming too and you can't stop me,"
Elsa laughed, "I didn't think i'd have to ask!" They both stepped back and wiped away their tears.
"Els, i'm making a bumber breakfast for you, now park your backside in the dining room!"
Elsa smiled at her sisters determined face. She stared around her huge hallway. Now all she had to worry about was winning.
