Mufeedah's POV

"What about the other shipments". I asked Martin

"They should arrive anytime soon boss. I spoke to mana and she's working on it". He was truthful and dedicated that's why I like him

"Hmmmnnn lets wait and make sure the boys have more ammunition". I took a sip of my Chapman.

"Yes boss".

I hung up with a sigh I was sitting in the back with a pair of sunshade and hat. I was relaxing when Georgia interrupted me.

"Ma'am someone is here to see you".

I was vexed. Why would she allow someone to come see me?. I gave strict instruction not to let anyone in and she disobeyed my orders. As if she noticed. "He said that his name is Jaguar".

I sprung up at the mention of his name "Then let him in. Are you that daft?".

She hurried quickly and returned with a sad faced Jaguar

"Hey baby. What's wrong?". I rubbed circles at his back. It's very rare seeing him like this

"I'm screwed, I messed up the last deal with a Mexican guy Gonzalez". He rubbed his temples

"What?. That was our only big shot. What's wrong with you?". He really needs a slap to his face.

"I'm sorry OK?". He was annoying and short tempered. I met Jaguar about five months ago when he was pleading to get a job. His Friend brought him in, I can remember picking him because he was bold enough compliment my outfit, something most of my workers can't do and since then he has been loyal until now.

"Find a way to fix this or else....." I said through gritted teeth.

"Or else I'll get involved with shot and that's more of the reason why I need your help". He turned to me

Hell no!

"My help for what?". I pretended to be confused.

"To help me talk to shot, you are the only one he listens to". He pleaded with sunken eyes and dry lips, I took a god look at him and realized He's lost weight. Shot was no Normal man and my ability to stand him was pathetic.

"No!... No!. That's not a good idea". I stood up and took off my sunglasses.

"Why?. I thought he was your husband. Why can't you talk to him". He was starting to flare up. I noticed his temper rising.

"shut up. He's not my husba.......". I said word by word through gritted teeth.

"He's not your husband?. What will I refer to your relationship as?. He can't take his goddamn eyes off you". He was exasperated and right now I knew shouting back at him will do no good.

"Let's say he's someone who helped me at a very vulnerable position". I sighed plopping down in my seat.

He didn't say anything for a while. He took a swing of my drink making me scoff. "You're still vulnerable". He stood up and walked away.

I greedily took all the air I could muster while shaking terribly.

More than three years ago.

"Eat up". Mama a middle aged woman said.

I stared back at her completely lost. She picked me up from the streets days back after I've been raped.

Yeah after leaving Nigeria I was raped by some men. The home which I stayed with was not protected and so a gang robbery happened that night and I was raped.

I never had protection throughout my entire life. Not even from my own family.

"I said eat up!". She spoke violently in her 'black American' accent which made me jolt with fear. She was unusually rude and I wondered why she housed me and other girls. I also wondered why she did this kind of job. Is it the money?. Doesn't she have children?

"I'm not hungry". I mumbled incoherently.

"I ain't asking girl. I'm dead serious. I don't want you looking like a bag of bones when shot comes. Now open your Goddamned mouth or Imma open em myself". I stared hard at her for some while taking note of her dark beautiful skin wrinkled with age and her big brown eyes. I didn't know when I opened my mouth and started eating. It tasted good though.

"Alright. Rest now. I'll be back with dinner later. If you need anything you know where the bell is. Aiit?". She headed to the door not waiting for my response.

I sighed as I laid down on the bed taking note of my unhealthy environment. The building looked dillaptated. Looking back now in life I don't think I have achieved anything reasonably so far, the only time when I decided to stand up for myself was what landed me here. I was scarred for life.I was sobbing silently when I drifted into slumber.

"She is the one I told you bout. She looked frightened when I found her. She looks well fed although the past few days she encountered ain't smiling". I still remained that way. I didn't open my eyes although I wanted to. That was when the smell of cigarette hit my nostrils. The other person said nothing. Then I heard footsteps approach me. I sucked in breath and I felt something run over my body. The cigarette stench more worse than ever.

"She's a fine piece". He said in a fine Italian accent. His voice exuded power and control.

"She sure is. But she's gotta long way to go. And bout sometime ago I was thinking she familiar. And I was.........". Mama stopped as if she was cut short and at this moment I wanted to be anywhere than here.

He didn't say anything, I could feel his breath on my skin. "Get up. We know you're awake". Now I knew this man had brains.

I waited then so many thoughts ran through my mind. I cursed the day I came across mama and I blame myself for my situation. I opened my eyes and studied the figure in front of me. He was a very handsome man in his early forties, he had deep blue eyes and his hair was a mixture of black and white. He had the same color pattern of his beards and his lips were pursed into a thin line.

He studied me carefully too as if reading every part of me. His lips curled into a smile as he extended a hand to me. I shook in fear and was caught in the decision of taking or leaving his hand. Finally I outstretched my hand and he pulled me up. I was looking in his eyes then he drew in his cigarette slowly.

"You shall be called pretty eyes". Then he blew out the cloud of smoke. I knew I had pretty brown eyes, which was one of the features you will never miss from me.

I stood transfixed as the smoke sent tickles around me. I felt reborn and renamed. I felt like an entirely new different person. He spun and walked away with an aura of confidence. Mama followed behind locking the door safely. I kept on chanting 'pretty eyes', 'pretty eyes'. I liked that.
