The Midnight Love

Chapter 20

We woke up at the same time in the morning, and Bella went to get us some blood and I grabbed the cell phone to see if I had any connection yet. But nope, nothing. I growled at the cell phone uselessly and sat out in the sand while Bella came back with some blood for us.

She sat in my lap and cuddled her head on my chest as we drank the blood together. After we finished I kissed her forehead gently and she relaxed a bit.

"I'm going up to the top of the island to see if I can get a signal on the phone." I told her. "can I come with you?" she asked me, "baby, its a long way up there I dont want..." she cut me off. "I'm fine." she hissed. I put my hands up in the air, "okay, okay."

We gathered up a couple of blood bags, some first aid stuff and some other emergency equipment. We began our hike, into the jungle of the island and towards the mountain closets to our side of the beach. As the incline began to increase, I realized we had reached the mountain much quicker than i thought we would. Then when the Incline began to level off, I realized that we had reached the top even quicker.

Bella smiled at me, proud that she made it up the mountain easily and I smiled back, also proud that she did it without a single complaint. The top of the hill/mountain was grassy and breezy. We laid down in the grass to rest, and Bella laid on my chest in her usual spot. I wrapped her in my arms and stared up at the pure blue sky. Not a cloud in sight as the sun warmed our skin, and the breeze kept us from sweating at all. It was perfect up here, and I could tell Bella thought the same because she fell right to sleep on me, without even the slightest movement or fidget.

I smiled and kissed the top of her head gently. I looked at the cell phone, not really expecting anything. That is, until I saw the signal. My eyes widened and the hair on the back of my neck stood as I quickly dialed the only number I knew could help.

"yoooooooo, where are you man?" Andrew answered loudly. "I actually dont know dude. But we're in alot of shit, and need your help." I replied worriedly. "I dont like the sound of this Bobby." he answered back wearily. "remember those flying lessons you took in your dad's helicopter? ... it's time to put those to work." I said. "where the fuck are you?" he said. "we're on one of those islands, south of jamaica."

"WHAT?" he screamed. "look dude, Bella is pregnant and she cant be on this island. We need to get her back home. please do me this favor man, We'll explain everything when you get here." I pleaded. He sighed long and loud, and I rolled my eyes. "you owe me." he said flatly. "i love you, bro." I answered him sincerly. "yeah, yeah, yeah."

"you'll see a big ass boat on the first island, south of jamaica. You cant miss it." I told him as I heard the phone beep, indicating the battery was almost dead. "alright, I'll get there as soon as I can but..." He was cut off as the phone died. "damn it you little bastard, you couldnt hold on for another minute?" I growled at the phone.

Bella seemed to get restless now and she rubbed her eyes and got up. "Andrew is gonna come get us soon." I said to her and rubbed her back and she whimpered softly as she tried to nudge her way back onto my chest. "when is her coming? I dont feel good, I want to go home." she said softly and I frowned as I continued to rub her back. "whats wrong baby?" I asked her. "I feel sick, i threw up this morning and last night." she told me.

I rubbed her stomach gently. "I'm sure its just the baby." i said to her. She nodded in agreement and started closing her eyes again. "can we stay up here tonight? im too tired to go back down." she said and I nodded. I took my shirt off and put it on her to keep her as warm as possible. She pushed it away not wanting me to be cold but she was exhausted and didnt keep up the fight.

The sun was begining to go down now and Bella was fast asleep in my arms. I shut my eyes for what seemed like five minutes, but I opened my eyes again and the moon was glowing directly above us.

I tried to close my eyes again when I smelt something burning. I didnt see any smoke in front of me, but when I turned my head I saw a glowing, orange light coming from deeper in the jungle. I saw smoke rising up from it and immediatly thought that there was a forest fire begining. But that theory was quickly erased when the chanting began. Bella heard it too because she woke up quickly and looked down at the fire with a frightened look in her eyes. "its ok baby, just be quiet ok?" I told her and she nodded silently.

We watched intently as we saw shadows of people dancing around the fire with large head dresses and sticks. They chanted louder and louder until screams broke out within their ranks. The dancing shadows turned into horrified running figures as gun shots rang out below us. Bella ducked under me as bullets were fired all over. After two minutes of utter horror, there was no noise at all. No guns, no running, no dancing, no chanting. The fire went out and the only sound was a few shuffled foot steps continuing to walk north of us. Bella shook with fear in my arms as we both stared down at the terrible massacar.

We then hurried back down the mountain to our beach head. We gathered the rest of our belongings and tossed it onto the boat.

We boarded the ship and were shocked at what we found. Everything had been ravaged and destroyed beyond repair. As we made our way below deck it was no different. I heard a low hiss, and then a growl from behind me. I quickly turned and made sure Bella was behind me. From in the shadows of the back room I could made out two blood red eyes, and a set of sparkling white fangs.
