I had been staying in that abandoned building in Seattle since the fight. I couldn't think straight around my family. Esme had tried to get ahold of me through Rose but I ignored them both. I knew Alice could see me, and I guess that gave me enough comfort to stay away for a while. I hated what I was doing. I was running away, just like I did before.
Only this time, I was running away because I didn't know how to feel about Edward. Not because I hated him.
The way Aro had smiled at me had made me hyper-aware of Edwards arm around me, and I can't get the feeling off my skin. I kept thinking over what I had said to Victoria. How I had announced that I was Edwards mate.
I threw my last book across the empty room. I had finished re-reading it again and I knew I couldn't stay away from home for long. I stretched and made my way to that same phone booth I had used what felt like months ago.
Alice picked up before the second ring.
"Marce," she breathed.
"Hi, Alice, is Rose there?" I asked.
I loved Alice but it felt awkward sharing my issue with her, as she and Edward were close.
"No, she just left. Are you coming home?" Her voice was light.
"I...don't know," I answered truthfully.
"I think you should. Rose is having problems. She's upset about Bella and says we need to move again, but Esme wants us to finish school here," she explained, "Could you come talk to her, please?"
I sighed heavily. While I agreed we would need to leave Forks soon, I also knew Esme was right. Not to mention the fact that Rosalie was always a big drama queen.
"I'll be there by morning," I promised as I hung up the phone.
For the first time in a long time I packed the books into my bag. I knew somewhere in my heart that I would be staying with my family, in a more permanent situation than ever before.
Edward.
I waited for Alice to hang up the phone. She had seen Marceline decide to come home and knew she would call soon. I looked at her expectantly.
"She'll be here soon," Alice announced.
"How soon?" I asked.
"An hour," Alice smiled, "You have plently of time."
I kissed my sister on the cheek and left.
I was going to make up the last few decades to Marceline.
Marceline.
I made it to the house a few hours before the sun came up. Alice was waiting for me. She smiled at me, and wrinkled her nose at my outfit.
"You can borrow some of my clothes," she smiled.
The next hour was spent with me sitting in one of the upstairs bathrooms as Alice delicately brushed through my hair and covered me in soft makeup. I questioned her on why this was necessary and she simply replied that we hadn't had sister time in years and Rosalie needed time to cool off before I tried to talk to her. I took her answer and allowed her to straighten my hair. I smiled at myself in the mirror. I looked better than I had in weeks.
"I have the perfect dress," she squealed as she dragged me to her room.
"Alice," I whined, "I don't think a dress is needed."
"Please!" She whined.
"Alice," I gave her a look. She rolled her eyes.
"Okay, well, how about this?" She dug around her closet before pulling out a short black skirt and a small black suit jacket. A smile broke across my face.
"This is so cute," I spoke softly, running my hands down the jacket.
I put the outfit on and thanked Alice. I ran my hands through my hair and smiled at her.
"I should go see Rose, now, but we can play makeup when me and her get back," I hugged my little sister.
"She should be behind the house a little ways, near that meadow," she said casually.
I looked for a while through the trees but came up empty handed. I decided to stop by the meadow and see if she was there. I got a weird feeling in my chest. The last time I had been here had been when Edward took me here.
As I neared the meadow I started to question the truthfulness behind what Alice had told me. I could see lights in the meadow. I stood at the treeline and my eyes widened.
There were lights strung up all around the trees. Soft, white lights hung everywhere. Lighting the dark meadow up like a fairy tale. Flowers were everywhere, not blooming because of the snow, but thousands of pink and white roses spread all across the ground, and at the center of it all stood Edward.
He was watching me, a smile on his face. I blinked slowly and walked towards him. There was an unfamiliar feeling in my chest. I stopped a foot or so in front of him and he watched the way my eyes took in the flowers and the lights around me. He was dressed in a suit, new, and looked...wonderful.
"You look beautiful yourself," he smiled.
"What is all this?" I whispered.
He took a few steps towards me and placed a hand on my face softly.
Love.
Guilt."I wanted to say I'm sorry," he whispered.
"I should be saying that," I admitted.
"You didn't know," he said carefully.
He placed his other hand on my face and closed his eyes. Memories filled my mind.
"She's not breathing, Carlisle what do I do?" I asked panicked.
"What did you do?" He raised his voice. He never yelled.
"She...I....I love her," I stumbled, "Please, help her, please!"
The memory changed then. I could see myself laying on a couch. Carlisle stood over me.
"She won't remember a lot," Carlisle spoke with his doctor tone.
"I just want her to be okay," I mumbled.
I watched Edward opened his eyes. He looked at me.
"I didn't know you would forget everything," he whispered. He closed his eyes again.
"You look beautiful," I whispered. The dress fit every inch of her perfectly.
"Why won't you come?" She asked.
"I can't," I sighed. She wanted me to go to the dance with her. Everyone was going.
"Do you...not want to be seen with me?" She mumbled.
"No! Marceline," I held her face in my hands gently, "I would do anything to be with you tonight. My father..."
She took a deep breath and smiled. It was sad.
"I understand," she whispered.
I hated that. She did understand, but not the way I needed her to. I loved her. I brought her face to mine slowly.
I opened my eyes. He was looking back at me. The lights around us were brilliant. The sun was just beginning to rise, the sky turned a deep purple. It was beautiful.
"Just like you," he whispered.
I leaned in then. I closed my eyes and brought my mouth to his. He wrapped an arm around my waist, his other hand on my face still.
Everything around me disappeared. It was only me and him. Something in me fell into place. Everything was him. I pulled away to look at him. The sky was lightening.
"Edward," I breathed, "I love you."
"I've always loved you," he whispered.
I smiled and pulled him in for another kiss.
