You hopped out of the car and admired the scent of rain, and the clear beautiful night sky. "Jesus.. this is beautif— wait. Larry you aren't taking me here to murder me right-"
He doubled over laughing, his long thick brown hair covering his face until he threw his head back in laughter. "I-I just.. I was waiting for you to say something like that.." she slicked his hair back with his hand, looking over at you from the side.
This.
Man.
Is.
BEAUTIFUL???
You laughed a bit as well, trying to hide your inner turmoil.
"Anyways.. yes, I do like the stars." You hopped back into the truck bed, Larry following soon after. He put his arm around you again, using your head as a headrest since he was the tallest of the two.
"You know, Sof.." he started, he cleared his throat a bit. You looked over at him, giving a small "hm?"
He cleared his throat again."You must be the North Star, because the light around you guided me here"
You blushed, and chuckled a bit. To your surprise he started laughing. "That was cheesy as fuck- my bad."
You started to laugh as well, punching his arm gently. "Shut up.. it was kinda.. /kinda/ cute."
The two of you laughed and joked for what seemed like hours on end. You talked about how mad Travis made you two when he picked on Sal, and how the two of you would NEVER touch a slice of bologna even if your lives depended on it.You didn't realize it but, your head was resting against his shoulder, his head was resting against your head. The two of you were silent. A long awkward silence. The only noise was that of the now awaken cicada, screaming its summer song to the wind.
"Hey, Sofia-?" Larry started, his voice completely serious.
"Yeah Larry?" You replied, looking over at him.
"Honestly, in these past two years I've known you.. now in case you might reject me, this may be the most awkward car ride home but- I've really liked you." He started, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Like. Really really."You froze, you blinked. You internally screamed.
"I.. Larry- I like.. dude. DUDE." you grabbed his shoulders.
He widened his eyes. "WHAT-"
You grinned, laughing a bit. "I've literally been waiting for you to say that!" You replied, gaining a sigh of relief from him."Thank god dude.. I couldn't take a car ride home after being rejected. You'd have to hear my sad mixtape." He teased, pulling you in for a hug. You ran your hand through his hair, and he did the same. You stayed there like that for awhile, just enjoying each other's company. The warmth against the cool air. He pulled away from the hug and looked up at the sky again before looking back at you.
"Can I- like- kiss you-?" He asked, with a hint of awkwardness.
"I mean.. we just- yeah- sure." You replied.
The two of you leaned forward.
Poke.
Poke. Poke.
"Larry- you're missing my lips. Your nose is poking me-"
The two of you cracked up before finally being able to seal the night with a kiss.
It couldn't have lasted long enough. That night was 7 years ago. The two of you have married by now and are expecting a little bundle of metal joy. It's nice to think about the little things that make you happy every now and then. You'll never forget the summer of 1998, when Larry Johnson poked you with his nose.
Oh. Oh- and revealed his mutual love for you. That's pretty important too.
