Byron Van Coven was beyond furious. He thought this day would never come
But as per usual fate was deeming itself quite unhelpful in Byron's case
After hearing the news of his old friend's arrival he had stormed into the garden located outside the Cheng Mansion
So with a cigarette between his lips and the amplification of his beating heart by the second, he wasn't sure he'd survive the night
He longed for peace that he knew he could never attain. The kind of peace that came after drunken nights with Logan Carlton and her sinful mouth of secrets
What he felt for that girl was something even the greatest of poets could not understand. It wasn't anything along the lines of love
But rather a certain comradeship that came with the trust they had instilled in each other over the years and maybe a little lust
Because to him she was like a bottle of the oldest wine which needed to be preserved for special occasions where she would be slurped, drained and savoured
Little did he know that 'special occasion' would soon come knocking at the door and when it came he would have to be prepared
War was going to be brewing in the corridors of St. Rosenberg Academy by Monday morning and Byron could feel it
If Lucas really was back then it was time for Byron to start working a lot harder to keep the part of him that existed before St. Rosenberg under harms way
Too many people knew already and with the way Charlie looked at him, he was sure he knew something too
But Charlie was never really a problem. A weak boy that somehow managed to get his heart between the claws of plain old Cora Cheng
Their love story was an indefinite tragedy
But the real matter at hand was the one pressing into Byron chest and blackening his already black heart
For a second he even had the audacity to let his mind wander to the knife in his pocket and what the world would be like if he suddenly sunk the silver metal into the heart of his enemy
And if along with the boy's heart, he could also take all his secrets. Because drunken preteens do drunken preteen things and he was very sure that Lucas knew more than he let on
The boy was always a quite one and suddenly Byron begun to wonder if the beautiful boy had lost his shyness at the bloom of teenage hood
This year was going to be the most defining year of their lives and it still would be. Just not in the way Byron was hoping it would go
Because even though he thought he could dodge the war. He was the war and every other person was just a mere piece in the chess game he was playing
Knowing fully well how it would end before it even begun, Byron finally let himself back into the Cheng's excuse for a mansion
As he walked down the marble floor like they were nurtured and created just for this very moment, his eyes snagged unto something that made him wince
That makes two times in one day. Not a good sign
At the uppermost table in the ballroom designated to only the best of the best sat Logan Carlton but what surprised him most was a happy Lucas Heisenberg sitting at her side
It looked like they were having a very friendly chat maybe even with the mix of some flirting
Of course Lucas would be after the most beautiful gem in the room and for the first time in many years she actually seemed like she was giving a guy a chance
No matted how much Byron tried not to see red, his vision blurred with it as lines and patches were made where they weren't supposed to be
This feeling was hate and signs of betrayal but nothing along the lines of jealousy, because Byron didn't have the capacity to feel jealousy
To feel jealousy you have to learn how to care and to learn to care you have to be taught to love
Byron didn't posses any of those characteristics so he really wondered why his mind was going places he would never go
And before anybody could catch a glimpse of the monster inside Byron Van Coven he carved a smile and walked up to their table
The look on Lucas' face when he caught a glimpe of Byron was both one of shock and resentment. The boys had grown to hate the other at a very young age. So neither one of them was surprised when Logan was the first to speak up
"Lucas this is my friend, Byron" she smiled charmingly at the both of them with a tentative finger sliding down Byron's hand with purpose
Upon the action, Byron knew she was curious. She wanted to know something and Byron couldn't let that happen
As he took his place at the head of their table Byron was assured that by the next day Lucas would no long be sitting there
Not after he hears the news
The real reason that no one understood Byron was because everything they knew about him were merely thinks he'd culled up to make himself more presentable
Byron is cruel they all said. But none of them knew the true meaning of cruel. Or how he could take a life just as quickly as he gave it
Byron wasn't cruel. He was a god. And gods feel things that no mortal would ever be able to comprehend
