Although there were still roughly thirty minutes left before the warning bell was to be rung, the hallways were already slightly packed
In a school like Rosenberg Academy, students seemed to have the unusual willingness to come to school at traditionally unusual times
Whether it was for the sole purpose of fooling their parents into thinking they were doing anything identical to reading in the over-prestigious academy or merely because they knew what would happen if they turned out to be anything unlike their prosperous parents. No one knew for sure
But one thing everyone knew was the selected few who were known to spend their early school mornings lounging on the aesthetically pleasing courtyard that came with the academy
Our dear prince lazed his back on the edge of his seat, with his striking pupils fixated on a certain brown haired girl who seemed to be making her way towards him in a haze
It was no surprise to anyone that the girl would be feeling this way, after all last night's gathering had ensured that everyone that didn't live under a rock got an earful of the recent turmoil in the affairs of the Carltons
But what surprised Charlie the most was the fact that the girl was showing her pain so openly
Well as openly as it got with this certain Carlton
To anyone else the girl seemed to have her usual brooding demeanor on, but Charlie could see the slight watering of her eyes and how her usually calm breathing seemed to be anything but steady
He was sure he realized this because of how well he knew the girl but maybe it was also because of the meagre fact that he had seen the exact same expression many times in the mirror
So as the mysterious girl made her towards the prince, he readied himself for an onslaught of emotions
But that onslaught never came
"What's up Logan?" Charlie asked carefully more afraid of her silence than her sadness
"Honestly. I don't even know right now" she sighed solemnly
"Is it about the thing with your dad?"
"No point in pretending right? It's not like everyone doesn't already know" her gaze fell on the entirety of the student body that were now consciously keeping their distances from the courtyard
"I'm sorry Logan" he replied
He always seemed to give those two insignificant words more value than they actually possessed
"Sorry about what, Charlie?" Logan let out a cynical laugh surprising them both
"Sorry that you have to go through all of this with your family alone. Sorry for making you feel like you can't talk to me anymore. I know I hurt you w-" he started to say
"See that's the thing with you people, you think every goddamn thing is about you. Well forgive me Charlie for having something that doesn't have to do with your self-conceited ass on my mind" She sneered
She did always have the habit of taking out her anger on other people maybe that's why instead of Charlie she was picturing the slowly aging face of her father before her
"You kn-" his voice faltered as he noticed the two looming figures that had appeared in his peripheral vision
"Hey guys" Cora chirped as she took a seat beside her boyfriend but not before planting a kiss on his cheek
"I'm going to go..." Logan muttered feeling even angrier than she was when she arrived if that was even possible
The remaining three watched the daunting figure of the dark skinned girl disappear into the crowd of eager high schoolers
Cora and Byron immediately launched into conversation about a certain math homework that really didn't seem all too important at the moment while all Charlie could think was Logan
Logan
Logan
Logan
She was so different a few years back. Hell they were all so different then
The good ol' days were the worst they all had to worry about was not breaking curfew and doing homework. Now everything was so real
A few years ago felt like an illusion to Charlie at this moment, just a mere panorama of the mind. Fragments and pieces of pictures that were now filtered with the color of rose
And if Charlie said that he wasn't terrified he'd be lying because if his reality now was one day painted in rose color, he wondered what his reality then will be
Will he still have his friends by his side? Will he still be with Cora?
'It will get better' seemed to be the national anthem of everyone's youthful days were the angst was running far too deep in your veins for you to differentiate it from your blood. But does it really?
Does it really get better?
Or do you just learn to numb the pain. To not feel anything at all, it seemed like a complete waste to the young prince
"Hey Charlie what's wrong?" Cora spoke up as Charlie realized that the once present Byron was now nowhere to be found
"Where did Byron go?" He asked absentmindedly
"Stop trying to change the subject" she deadpanned, her eyes now a shade darker than they were before. Not out of lust but out of anger
"Okay it's Logan" he sighed
She stiffened "why the hell do you still care about her feelings"
"Because she's my friend Cory, and she'll always be just that" he groaned at where the conversation was going
"It didn't seem like that two years ago" she muttered looking on the verge of tears
What a scene it was. The ever-so confident Cora on the brim of sorrow due to a mere lovers quarrel
"Would you ever forget that?" Charlie's voice rose higher
"I wish I could" she shook her head in exasperation
"Well you should because even then she meant nothing to me, whatever happened between us was a mistake. Even though she's my best friend, she's also a poisonous bitch and you know you're the only one I'm looking at... the only one" he said with all the honesty and sincerity he could muster
"I really do love you, you know" She exhaled
"and I you" he said before sealing his beautiful promise with a heartfelt kiss reserved only for the loveliest of lovers
