The sudden numbness of an adrenaline rush that came with a used syringe had finally left the soul of poor Nova
She liked to think of herself as a cunning paradox but that was way back before everything happened
As she acknowledged the feeling of solemnity that enveloped her, she couldn't help herself from being attacked by her own sober thoughts
This was a rare occurrence in the life of Nova Heisenberg and if she wasn't scared about this she would've been even more scared
So thinking back at the events of last night, Nova was very sure she shouldn't have gone to that club
And she shouldn't have taken the drink from the fingers of the strange man lurking in the shadows
And she definitely shouldn't have called her idiot of a brother to come pick her up
All things which were done in a foolish haze of drunkenness that Nova had become quite accustomed to
Now all the withering girl could think of was how truly fucked this situation was
"How long are you going to stare at that wall and ignore me" Lucas sighed turning his face to her side profile
"As long as it takes for you to get the hint that I don't want you here" she groaned
"That's why you called me to pick your drunken ass up at three am in the fucking morning right?" Her brother quirked his eyebrow at her causing her emit another groan of annoyance
"Way to make me regret my choices, brother" she said with an eye roll that burned into his skull
"I'm not making you regret anything I'm just pissed"
Lucas knew exactly who had orchestrated that man to drug his sister's drink but what he didn't understand was how the boy did it
But the only problem with Lucas' reasoning was that he was basing a god's thinking on the thoughts of mere mortals
And this would surely be his weakness
"What on this earth would you be so pissed about?" Nova asked at the brim of amusement
The sight of her brother being selfish as per usual seemed to amuse the young girl for some sick reason
"Pissed that I didn't see this coming" he sighed taking a piece of her hair to twirl between his fingers
"I was constantly warning you about them, but you seemed not to be listening. He's not the same person he was in middle school, Luke" his little sister chided
"I know that but you know I'm not all about this whole revenge shit you have going on" he continued to play with her hair in way that was endearing to them both
"Yeah. That why I clean up my messes myself" she grinned like the queen she was
"I don't care what you do just don't do anything stupid"
That depends on your meaning of stupid, Luke
"You're one to talk, missing the first day of school. Who knew you were such a bad boy?" Nova fanned herself as she let out a very unattractive laugh
"Oh shut the hell up" he said slapping her hand lightly
"So you've met the infamous Logan Carlton huh?" She asked signaling to his recent snapchat story
"Yeah and I've decided that she's a goddamn enigma" he smiled wistfully as if recalling a beautiful yet disturbing memory
"She'll lure you in with her gorgeous smiles and a minute later she'll be stabbing you in the back and taking out your heart. Be cautious of that girl"
Although Nova was merely seventeen she was seventy at heart. But with alarming wisdom followed many repercussions
"All I said was that she was an enigma. I never said I trusted her" Lucas sighed for the umpteenth time since he got to Nova's room
What Lucas didn't know was that his seemingly harmless statement was supposed to end with a daunting 'yet'
A 'yet' that would signify the war that was to come
From the moment Lucas set everything in motion, the storm had started brewing above head
Byron may have been the master of all storms but Lucas was surely the eye of the hurricane
After our one and only king had made a very important phone call during the Cheng's resumption party which had caused that man to plant that drug in Nova's drink, something else had been planted in the hearts of a selected few
Because those few had a choice to make. To destroy or to preserve
Even though they were still at the ripe ages of youthful teenage-hood, the lives they all led didn't allow them the luxury of tranquility
These days kids everywhere were forced to grow up too quickly. As hands were plunged into a world of cruelty and demons of torture
But the younger they were, the tougher their skin became, because nobody wanted to be killed twice in the same way
Nova was one of those kids. The ones that were forced with a sharp knife against their throats to continue what their ancestors had begun
It was circus that the society had coined and established with its own thin fingers of crystal
A circus where all the misfits and freaks were gladly accepted. As to survive in this sinister world they would need a second skin
A way to ease the pain that came with the never ceasing looks of the public
Whether it was a short glare, a blinding smile or the mere act of one to take away the life of a fellow saddened soul
It was alright because in this circus we worship gods
