JAMES

When your trying to lie to literal Homeroom teacher about missing from school for 3 days, the excuse:
"My Dad is missing and I was almost killed in my own home."
Is a bit overboard for only 3 days. So he just went with illness. But his teacher wasn't daft... everyone knew that Charlie was missing. Most likely dead... everyone kept staring and whispering as they passed. Not to mention having the mythical Cullen's by your side constantly is a catalyst for unbelievable rumors. Once they got to Biology, James found Edward already seated and glancing at him with a small smile, that was until some random kid tripped James and he fell right on his face.

After James succeeded in talking Edward down from breaking the kid in two, the teacher arrived and the two began chatting during the experiment.

"So why did you and Bella move down here?"
"Our dads great and all, despite what Bella thinks but... we didn't have much in our old home... not since Paul."
"You say that like this Paul is a bad guy."
"No... he's actually pretty cool and nice, he makes my mom so happy and he's a work in progress pro wanna be baseball player. But... things haven't been the same for me in a long time."
"It was something very painful wasn't it..? I'm not going to ask. You don't need to remember it. Not right now."
"Hey Edward...?"
"Yeah?"
"What did Alice mean by 'barely controlling yourself'?"
Edward debated on this question for what seemed like minutes until he leaned over and whispered it to James
"Your smell is really overpowering... especially to a sharp nose like mine. Might wanna tone down your axe spray, so... do you like the rain?"

"Your asking me about the weather?"

"Yeah... I guess I am..."

"To be honest... I use to love it. Back when I'd visit with Bella. Me and Jacob use to play outside for hours on end getting lost on the Reservation. Now... it's just sad to me. Bella hates the rain, I love it."

After James's final class, he was going to wait for Bella when he realized she already left to go to Jacobs... he sat out by his Truck. The only thing he'd have to remember his dad by in case he... didn't come back.

James was too busy in thought to notice a van nearly getting t boned and swerving out of the way, spinning out of control, as he looked up he saw it coming towards him and his eyes filled with fright, he instinctively tried to curl up and he felt a presence right beside him, as he just opened his eyes he bore witness to Edward shielding him and stopping the truck with a single hand. There was a moment of the two staring into each other's eyes before Edward jumped out the back and disappeared, before James could say anything, half the parking lot had come running over to check on him. Alice, Jasper, and Rosalie came rushing over to help him out and cleared the way as they lead his shaking and shocked body to their truck, helping him and driving off towards the clinic again

2 hours later

"In short your very lucky. Whatever hit the van stopped it before it could hit you and most likely would've killed you. I am slightly worried as your blood levels have come back with... worrying results. But I suppose I'll have Alice prepare you some food in advance. I'll be taking you back home when the shift ends. Poor Edward nearly had a heart attack when he witnessed it. Not to mention the trauma this kind of stuff could cause if it continues to happen so frequently" Carlisle declared reading from his clipboard. Of course he'd get Carlisle... twice in a row. After he left, James began to wonder about that but with Edward... he SAW Edward stop the van, but then he was gone like he'd never been there. Yet everyone else claims that Edward wasn't even close. He'd have to get some serious answers from Edward.

When Carlisle gave him the ok to wander around to stave off boredom, he heard the familiar voices of Edward and Rosalie arguing.
"You broke the rules!"
"What was I supposed to do? Let him die?"
Then the voice of Carlisle came from nowhere.
"Let us discuss this in my office..." and James knew he'd been seen. He poked his head around the corner and pointed at Edward. "You. I'd like to have a few words with you."
And Edward walked away from the group to stand before him as the two left for his office. Edward was a good few inches taller then him and it never really bugged him until he tried to look him in the eyes. They were... different. Golden brown instead of black. Edward politely fake coughed to get James attention and had a faint smile.

"Your kinda adorable when your angry."

"How did you do it?"
"What do you mean?"
"Save me. You were clear across the parking lot beside Jasper!"
"I don't know what your referring to but yes I was beside Jasper, I was there and suggested you be taken to the hospital."
"No I SAW you block the van... stopped it dead in its tracks!"
"You hit your head pretty badly to be seeing that kinda stuff huh? I wasn't even close enough to TRY to stop it."
"You pushed it with your hand Edward. And Carlisle said I sustained no scratches in the process. Guess again."
"Well even if you do believe that, no ones gonna believe you."
"I wasn't planning on telling anyone... I just want the truth."
"You can't just thank me and let this go?"
"Thank you! You little..."
"Your really not gonna let this go are you?"
"No."
"Well I hope you enjoy disappointment.."

And with that Edward walked away, a faint smile crept onto James lips and he felt that first sliver of romantic feeling... like the first bit of summer creeping through the cold and dry spring. He almost wanted to tell Edward to stop and come back... just to talk to him again...

Later that Night

Heat crept through his body as his dreams continued to make him shift in his sleep, wild fantasy and nightmare mixed into one very strange and hot mess, he finally got overwhelmed and woke up, at first he swore he saw Edward standing by him in the darkness of the room, but when he flipped the switch he was gone. James got up and immediately crept downstairs, Sure enough, Edward was asleep on the couch. Alice and Jasper sharing the inflatable mattress on the floor. Satisfied with his answer, James went back upstairs and back to sleep
