Chapter Four: The Listening

Walking through the hallways at school is always annoying. Pushing through younger students who think it’s okay to walk in groups of 7 and block any access to getting to where you need to be, girls who ‘were so wasted last night and totally didn’t mean to sleep with that guy from that school’ and its Wednesday and the girls who scream when they see their friends, even though they saw them yesterday.

I walked to my first class for today, advance English. Usually I don’t mind English but my mind is still confused from everything that happened yesterday. The first half of the lesson was okay because Mrs Canapa was talking about the upcoming assessments and I was too busy writing down everything she was saying to think about anything else. It was when she started answering questions that my mind started thinking about a hundred different things, and then I caught myself thinking about Michael. Dammit.

‘Lilith’ Mrs Canapa said sternly.
I looked up at her.
‘Are you listening or are you just sitting there counting down the minutes until you get to leave?’
‘The second one.’ I said casually, Mrs Canapa is used to my sarcasm so she just shook her head and turned to look at the clock.
‘You’re in luck, there’s only 10 minutes left’
‘That’s still too long though’ I said under my breath, adjusting my things and making it look like I’m paying attention until the end of the lesson.

2nd period is tolerable and I have no time to think about irrelevant things because currently in IPT we’re in the middle of programming robots to dance to music. I like this class because Lana also chose it and we’re partners for this assignment we’ve got.

When the bell rang for recess Lana and I went straight to the spot we sit and waited for the other girls. Melony came first by herself. She basically skipped toward us, I don’t know why but she’s always in a good mood. I don’t understand how someone can be so happy, especially in the morning. She’s very pretty, she has short, wavy blonde hair which she has dyed fairy floss pink. She also has blue eyes, she’s looks good naturally but she likes to wear a lot of mascara for some reason. She sat down next to me and hugged me.
‘I missed you yesterday, math was boring without you’ she said smiling at me.
‘You probably learnt something while I was gone’ I replied jokingly back at her. We’re in a high class but neither of us do any work because the teacher is a total drop kick and we always distract ourselves by drawing moustaches on all the people in the text book.

After Melony and I’s short conversation I looked up and saw Margret and Missy walking towards us. When they came closer I heard them laughing about how bad they did in their woodwork projects and how much they hated their teacher. Margret sat down.

‘Hey bitches, finally decided to join us at school aye’ she said laughing. She flicked her long blonde hair off her shoulder and then proceeded to pick her food out of her blazer pockets. She eats a lot but never seems to get fat. Fuck that, ha.
‘Where have you two been I missed you’ Missy said pouting at Lana and I.
‘You know we’d never leave you Missy’ Lana replied leaning over to hug her.
‘I got this for you’ I announced reaching into my pocket and pulling out a shell I picked up at the beach the day before.
Missy smiled and took the shell.
‘Thanks Lilith, it’s perfect for my collection of shells that I love oh so much’ Missy said sarcastically but genuinely appreciating the small gift.

We all love Missy but she doesn’t really talk much around the other girls beside Lana and I. She’s really pretty, the kind of pretty that all the boys love. But she doesn’t ever pay attention to that. She says she has better things to do then bat her eyes at some boy and make him wet himself, and we all know she has the ability to do that. Missy is tall and very skinny; she has chestnut brown hair that used to be very long until recently when she cut it all off, to a pixie cut, she said she wanted to try something new. I didn’t believe her for a second. Don’t get me wrong she still looked beautiful, honestly she could suit anything. She also doesn’t wear makeup, she claims that it’s too expensive and a waste of time. She didn’t need it anyway.
