The bridesmaid duties started immediately. After school, Amber helped me take measurements for the dress. Then I was scheduled to go meet with the wedding party on Sunday since I was coming into the wedding so late.
I had spent the last couple days getting ahead on homework so that I wouldn't be so stressed in the weeks leading up to the wedding. It was currently Friday evening. Amber had come over to help me prepare for tomorrow's ball as well as help me study. We were currently sprawled on my bed with face masks on, our hair in horrendous buns, and quizzing each other for Bio.
I shut the book and yawned. "I can't take any more of this. I'm done."
"How far ahead are you, exactly?" she asked me.
"Like, a week and a half? Maybe two?" I replied.
She laughed and poked my cheek. "You nerd."
"What? I care about my grades!" I defended. "So sue me."
"I can't do that, your dad is a really good lawyer." I smiled. I was going to miss the nights we had together when we went off to college. "Do you know what you're going to do for hair and makeup tomorrow?" I shook my head. "You're so unprepared," Amber scolded. "How have I not rubbed off on you more?"
"I thought we had all day tomorrow!" I got up and she followed me to the bathroom, where we wet washcloths to remove the goopy face masks.
"Still," she mumbled. "Don't worry, I'll take care of it."
"What now?" I asked. "Movie?"
"You know it. Let's watch a Disney movie," she suggested. "Please? Like Mulan or something?"
"Okay, let me put it on." We went back to my room and I opened up my laptop to start the movie. I glanced at the time. 9:32.
The movie began with the scene on the Great Wall, and my eyelids began to feel heavy. I didn't even fight it, knowing that I'd fall asleep eventually. So I just leaned back and relaxed while the movie played.

"Wake up!"
I groaned. Why was everyone always disturbing my sleep?
"Maya, get up!" I opened my eyes slightly to see Amber standing above me. "Come on, we have a lot to do!"
"What time is it?" I whined.
"It's noon."
I sat up, not even slightly surprised. "I slept for over fourteen hours."
She laughed. "Yes, so you can get up now, you lazypants."
"Okay, okay. What are we doing?"
"Go eat something and come back upstairs," she ordered as she rummaged through my drawers.
I rolled my eyes but complied. I ended up just eating some cereal and scrolling through my social media. When I got upstairs, Amber was there waiting for me.
"Hop in the shower, and make sure you shave really well."
I realized that today was going to be a day of just being bossed around by my best friend and that there was nothing I could do to prevent it.

Three hours later I was showered and clean, with my nails painted nude by Amber and face masks done. Now was the scariest part. Amber was going to do my hair and makeup.
"Okay, I'll start with your makeup and do hair afterward. And you can't see until I'm done."
"Aww, why?" I whined.
