stay || jeongguk angst

"stay awake."

you knew he wanted to break down and cry in front of you but he tried his best to keep you awake. you saw the tears forming in his eyes, but being the stubborn, yet caring person he was, he thought of you and didn't try to show you how scared he was. hell, you felt as if he was even more scared than you.

in the dangerous streets of seoul, you and your boyfriend jeongguk walked through a dark alley. it was a short cut to get to the bus to get to your shared apartment. being broke college students, you both couldn't afford a car just yet so you had to live with what life had to give you. as you were walking you held onto his hand tightly. the both of you walked by a bar in the alley and as you were talking about your next date two men pushed each other out the door of the bar. you knew that they were not at all sober and completely filled with alcohol. you both continued to mind you own business and the-

"baby, stay awake please. i'm right here."

at this point jeongguk's shirt was completely ripped and wrapped around your bleeding abdomen. he didn't know what to do at all. he had called the ambulance and they were still no where to be seen.

"ok so i have a joke for you ok." you tried your best not to laugh because the pain in your stomach would feel worse but you couldn't help the fact that your boyfriend was a dork.

"knock knock." there they were again- you saw the tears forming in his eyes again. you hated seeing him like this it always made you feel like shit. all you wanted for jeon jeongguk was happiness and you hated how you were the cause of all of the pain he's feeling right now.

"who's there?" with all of your strength, you managed to lift your arm up and wipe away his tears. "baby, tell me the joke."

"knock knock."

"who's there?"

"etch."

"etch who?"

"bless you."

you were going to miss him. his dorky, irritating, loving, and amazing self. you knew that you weren't going to make it. your vision was getting blurry and the pain in your stomach got worse almost every time you breathed. jeongguk was the only person you loved in this world. he was your world.

he saw how your eyes were slowly starting to close and he wasn't ready to let you go. twenty minutes passed and the ambulance was still not there. the man that hurt you ran off to who knows where.

to jeongguk, it felt like a nightmare. the only person he loved and cherished was on the verge of dying. if it was a nightmare, all he wanted was to wake up from it and be able to hug you as tight as possible, without any injuries, but it wasn't a nightmare, everything was real.

"baby, aren't you cold?" you asked him, showing a lot of concern in your voice.

"the only thing i'm worrying about is you. you're doing great. just a couple more minutes, baby. fight it."

25 minutes

nothing.

jeongguk lost it and broke down into tears. he couldn't handle seeing you in pain anymore. he wanted to save you, but how could he possibly do that? he hugged you tightly, still sobbing, soaking your shirt.

"i love you. i hope you know that. everything i've done and will do, it's all for you. you're the only reason why i'm strong enough. so please, be strong for me." he cried in between his sobs.

all the memories of you and him began to enter your mind. you wanted to make a ton more with him, but it was impossible. you were dying.

"jeon, my head hurts." you whined to your boyfriend who was binge watching his favorite anime.

"come here. put your head on my lap." he says keeping his eyes on the tv, while tapping his lap.

you did as he said and you were amazed at how beautiful he was. you loved how his eye wrinkles would appear whenever he laughed, how his eyes would get bigger whenever he was focused, and how angelically he laughed. his laughter was like music to you, even though it sounded like the white chicks.

he paused his anime and looked down at you.

"god, i really got a pretty one huh?" you blushed and hid your face in his stomach. he quickly put you back in your position and you put your hands in front of your face to hide how red you were.

"don't hide. i wanna admire you more, meanie." he says while removing you hands from your face.

"jeon i love y-

"baby please. keep your eyes open."

you were tired. you wanted to rest. your body was in pain. no matter how much you wanted to stay and be with the love of your life, you couldn't.

"jeon jeongguk, you know i love you right?" you say as you caressed his tear stained face. he nodded and continued to sob.

"i love you so much, but i can't anymore jeon. everything hurts." you pulled his head and kissed him, which felt amazing. it was probably going to be the last kissed you two ever shared.

"baby, just close your eyes. i don't want you to hurt anymore. i love you so much."

"i love you too, jeon." you obeyed him and closed your eyes to finally stop everything. who would've thought that you would die this way, or at least this young.

but if you were to live any other way, you wouldn't. you don't regret this life because you got to spend it with the person you cherished the most, jeon jeongguk. what you do regret is not being strong enough for him.

a couple more minutes passed and jeongguk noticed how you stopped breathing. as soon as he felt your pulse his whole world stopped. everything seemed wrong and his vision started to blur again.

he lost you.
