I was standing in front of the mirror and looking at myself. My blonde hair was strait and curved a little on the ends. I stared at myself, looked into my green eyes and stared. I hated myself more and more the longer I stared and decided to look away. I turned away and sat below the mirror. I wanted to have friends, I was all new to this school. Yes it was the first week but I still knew nobody. I had maybe three friends and a crush.
My friend, Briar Allen, walked into the bathroom to see me sitting below the mirror and gave me a small almost sad smile. "Hey how's it going?" she asked. "Fine," I answered. "Come on, it's lunchtime and we have to get a table before the 'pops' get our table."
The pops were what we called the popular kids. We were in the misfit group. The groups in order of popularity are: Pops, Gazelles, jocks, pop-nerds, nerds, misfits, geeks, totally-un-populars. Gazelles were the athletic popular kids. And the rest are self-explanatory.
We rushed off to the cafeteria and say down at our usual table. One of my other friends came and sat down. her name was Lyra Thompson. So me Lyra and Briar sat alone for lunch and nobody came to sit with us. Lyra and Briar were my only friends. My crushes name was Damien Lee, I doubt I have a chance with him though. He was more of a pop than I was and I doubt he'd like a girl like me.
I had four classes with Damien, Language Arts, Gym, History, and science. He had blonde hair and dreamy blue eyes. I rushed to my history class, I sat almost right next to Damien. I sat in my seat and stared at Damien on the sly. He may have noticed but didn't do anything. And I caught him once staring at me and I didn't do anything. I liked to think he likes me me too, even though I doubt it.
When school ended and I boarded the bus I sat in a seat alone. I sat near the back were the high schoolers are and listen to them talk. It's interesting what they talk about and I laugh sometimes but they are good after school entertainment. I listened the whole ride home and took notes with my phone on the funny parts. It was a boring bus ride so I read most of the way.
That night I couldn't sleep, I sat up all night thinking about Damien. I also thought about how mum never talked about my dad and how she avoided the topic as much as possible. What was so wrong with my father? Why would she never speak of him? I must find out what the secret was, why she won't tell me about dad.
The next morning on the way to school I asked mum again. "What's my dad's name?" I asked. "Darius Shan..." she answered. "Really?! Why don't we speak dad often? Why not tell me until now the thing I've longed to know since I knew about people having dads." I complained. " We will talk more later." and that was the end of our conversation.
