Legacy Unbound (AoT/Blue Exorcist crossover fanfic)

Chapter Six

Armin walks slowly into the dark room and the door closes silently behind him. His eyes try to adjust in the nearly dark room and when they finally do, he sees a desk with a man sitting there. The man has a dark suit on and dark purple hair. He also has a goatee of the same color. (I know what Mephisto wears the majority of the time in Blue Exorcist, but I wanted him to make a good impression on Armin first, then go with his goofy outfit.) He stares at Armin, making the young blond fidget a little under his gaze. The man seems amused that the little boy is fidgeting under his gaze, but he has to go on with his little game. He stands up and jesters to the chair in front of his desk.

"Have a seat, Armin."

Armin jumps a little, but does what he is told. Sitting cautiously in front of the desk, Armin looks at the man. The man sits back down and folds his hands on the top of his desk.

"Do you remember me, Armin?" Armin nods his head.

"You're the ball of light from the Titans belly."

"Yes, that was me. My name is Mephisto, just in case you forgot my name. And I take it you're wondering why you are here."

"Yes sir."

"Hmm." Says Mephisto. "You sound like a polite boy. I say that your time in your worlds military has given you discipline."

"Yes sir, it has. We learn to follow the rules and respect our elders."

"I can see that. Not like this world where kids don't follow rules exactly." His mind wanders off to Yukio's brother, Rin Okumura. He doesn't know if he should tell Armin about Rin yet or just let him find out on his own. Hmm, maybe he should let Armin find out on his own. His attention turns back to the boy and smiles even more. "Alright, I'll tell you why I brought you here."

Armin just nods his head, playing a little bit with the end of Mikasa's scarf. Mephisto clears his throat.

"I brought you here to this world because I believe you have a strong, untapped power inside of you."

Armin is bewildered by what Mephisto said. "Me,have an untapped power? I believe that's impossible sir."

"And why would you think that?" Mephisto leans back in his chair and crosses his arms. He already knows the answer, but he wants to hear it from Armin himself.

"Because I was generally the weakest cadet in the 104th Trainee Squad. I barely past the test that let me become a soldier. The only thing that gives me some sort of accomplishment is that I'm a gifted strategist. That's probably the only thing they kept me for. Everything else, I'm a weakling."

"Hmm, that was true back in your old world. But here, you can finally tap into that power of yours that you couldn't do until you got swallowed whole."

"Like I said before, I don't have any power. I'm just a weakling." Armin casts his gaze to his slightly trembling hands. He can hear Mephisto sigh and the sliding of his chair. He looks up to see Mephisto walking towards an ancient looking cabinet. He turns to look at Armin.

"What I have to show you can make you believe that you have power inside of you." He opens the doors of the cabinet and pulls out an old box. He walks back to the desk and sets it down. Reaching inside his breast pocket, he pulls out a key and unlocks the box. Before opening it all the way, he looks up at Armin. "Let me tell you a legend, which has many versions, but the one I'm telling you about is in fact the true story. It's about a great king by the name of King Arthur, who many people in this world know when they just hear it. When he was a small child, he was like you. He was considered weak and he barely had any food to feed himself. Then one day, when trying to find his brothers sword, he stumbled upon a sword inside a stone. He told others about it and every knight or swordsman tried to take the sword out of the stone. But no one succeeded until Arthur tried and pulled the sword out. Then a great sorcerer by the name of Merlin showed up and declared that Arthur was the heir to the throne. Thus Arthur became king. Years later, when war was raging, Arthur went to the deity known as 'The Lady of the Lake.' She offered him three choices. A chalet. A magical sword known as Excalibur. And another mythical weapon. Sorry, I don't remember the name."
