I was grinning like a fool, waiting impatiently for the ferry to arrive from the mainland. It was Good Friday, the long weekend and the girls were finally coming to visit. I had planned activities weeks in advance, anticipating the weekend to be amazing. We had organized that the girls would catch the ferry to Fort Pinta, just like I had for the first time several months ago.
My excitement skyrocketed as the small yellow ferry came into view. I must have looked like a mad woman, standing at the docks, grinning at a ferry. The closer it got, the easier it became to see who the passengers were and I identified Izi, Ella and Ellena waving furiously to me. I waved back, almost jumping with joy at the prospect of seeing my friends. As soon as the ferry landed at the docks the three girls came sprinting off, their suitcases and bags practically flying behind them.
"Caitlin!"
"Hey, guys!"
We all slammed into each other, embracing in a group hug. It felt so nice to hug them all again after so long apart.
I pulled back from the suffocating hug, "come on, I have so much to show you."
I pulled the girls by their hands, warning them about the horses rushing past, and walked towards the trailer where Jenna was. A week ago, I had gone to her and asked to borrow two of the stable horses. She had happily agreed, even offering to pick us up from Fort Pinta.
"Guys, this is Jenna, Jenna this is Ella, Izi and Ellena," I said, pointing to the girls in order.
"Nice to meet you, I hope you enjoy being here."
"We will," Izi grinned.
"Caity will make sure of it," Ellena giggled.
I smiled and gestured to get in the car, climbing in the front myself. Jenna packed their suitcases into the car and climbed in next to me. The whole action was reminiscent of my first day here and it gave me a strange deja vu feeling. We began to drive to Moorland and I was ecstatic to finally show my friends my home.
We entered the apartment together, the room seeming awfully small with four people and three suitcases in it.
Ellena screwed up her face, clearly disgusted. "Oh God, this place is awful."
"Gee, thanks." I sarcastically replied, closing the door behind me. I tried looking at my apartment from their point of view, rugged, dirty and old, hardly a nice place to live. "Well now that you're all here, maybe we can put in the effort to clean it up?" I tried.
"Yeah," Ella replied seriously.
"I mean, I was joking but if you guys don't mind, I'd love the help."
Izi nodded and moved to the small stack of mattresses. She sat down and giggled as she bounced slightly. I smiled and shook my head, walking over to pull the couches out of the way. The others joined in and soon we had the couches pushed against the walls, four mattresses lying on the floor, and a pile of bedding in the middle of the room.
"What now?" Izi asked.
"A little riding tour of Jorvik."
"Yes, we get to go riding!" Ella exclaimed.
"Yeah, get some riding clothes on and we'll get started."
After advising the girls on what to wear, we headed downstairs to Glory's Stable. She did a small rear out of excitement. I walked over and rubbed her nose as she snuffled my hand for food. "This is Glory."
"She's so cute, is she yours?" Ellena asked.
"No, she's being loaned to me," I answered. Beginning to tack her up, I explained to the girls what I was doing and what everything was. "One of you can ride Glory, I have Mr Temperamental over here."
