Heart: racing
Breathing: nonexistent
Thoughts: too many places at once to think.
As I heard the loud thumping of paws close behind me, I panicked as they got closer, and ran into a hole that he couldn't fit in. it led to a house. I didn't want to bother anyone or anything inside, so I stood still near the house. I jumped as I heard talking coming closer from the house. I felt like death was near. I clenched my eyes shut preparing for the worst as I heard him still yelling and trying to get me outside, and the group of voices coming closer to me. I panicked and ran right past all the feet by the house's door. I ended up in a corner near the door as they shut the door and backed away from me slightly. The voices started yelling. I couldn't tell if it was at each other, or me. Suddenly, they all stopped. I opened my eyes slowly, still not moving as I examined what was maybe about to kill me. There were four humans. They seemed to be around in their 20s. One of them looked kinda skinny. with slim to no hair on his head. He seemed to feel bad for me or something. I looked at the other ones. One had a weird looking helmet on, one was tall and had what seemed to be brown hair. Another was a decent size, and had almost black hair, and light brown eyes. The skinny one was closest to me, while the rest kinda backed up. Something in my guts told me to trust this man, but I didn't know if I could listen to my guts after what happened. But his fascinating blue eyes intrigued me. We seemed to make eye contact for a few moments. he might have been thinking of what to do. He turned slowly to his friends.
"Cam, go get my soft blanket from my room. Jay and Eric, go to another room so you don't scare the poor thing." The three other guys went off, while the skinny one stayed. I still didn't move. I was still afraid. Not mentally, but my body was frozen and I couldn't move. The tall one with brown hair that seemed to be: Cam, came back with some sort of blanket. I was cornered as Cam walked away. I thought the tall skinny man would try and capture me, since i was in the corner. But he just sat down in front of me.
"hey there little guy, er, girl. I don't know what gender you are, but hi. I'm not gonna hurt you, ok? I don't know about the rest, but I won't." He was silent for a moment. He grabbed an object from inside the blanket. It was some sort of cheese piece. My stomach growled as I remembered what it was like not to be hungry. I hadn't eaten in weeks. As he set the cheese gently in front of me, I was thinking that it was either die of starvation, or possibly get poisoned right now.. Either way I felt as if I was gonna die soon, so I slowly grabbed the cheese and ate it quickly. No signs of poison. He smiled at me. Not the kind of smile that was sinister, like what I was used to.. It was a kind smile. One I hadn't seen in so long. It made me feel comfortable. My muscles relaxed a bit. I know I shouldn't have been letting my guard down, but I couldn't help it, this man was so mesmerizing. Suddenly, the man in the helmet came closer to us. He shot me with something. All I remember is the skinny man yelling at the one in the helmet. And I blacked out.
Mason's POV
"What the fuck did you do that for Eric?!! I was trying comfort it!!"
I yelled at Eric,
"We don't need a dirty fuckin' animal in the house, put it outside, or I'm killing it instead."
I was silent, I didn't want to hurt the poor baby fox. It would die out there on its own.
"Fine then."
Eric pushed past me and grabbed the fox.
"NO! CAM!!"
Cameron came running downstairs just in time to stop Eric throwing the small animal.
"ERIC! PUT IT DOWN!"
Eric smirked.
"Ok"
He dropped it. I panicked and caught it before the poor thing could hit the floor.
"Swagger, you're an asshole!!"
I said, cradling the fox in my hands as I walked to my room.
"Cam, don't let anyone in my room please."
"Lock it dumbass."
Cam said. I nodded as I walked upstairs.
"Eric, were gonna have a talk-"
Cameron started as I walked into my room. I locked the door behind me. And put the small animal on the bed. I put out two bowls of soft dog food, and water on the ground. I laid on my bed, putting the animal on my lap as I admired it's tiny features. It's ears were down and it seemed lifeless. It's breathing was very steady at this point. I didn't want to wake it, but I gently pet it's fur. It was very soft, yet very dirty because it was probably outside for god knows how long. The poor thing had scars and recent cuts all over it.

Fox POV
I woke up very comfy. I soon realized that comfy is not a feeling I have often, so I just kinda soaked in it for a moment before I could think to panic. I looked up to see the skinny man. He was asleep. I still didn't panic however. I admired the environment around me. I saw a sign on the man's door that said: Mason's room, keep the fuck out cunt. I mentally snickered. So his name was Mason. I looked at the ground, which was a decent jump away from the bed. I thought I could make the jump, but by the time I was in the air, I realized how small I was, and fell, squeaking as I hit the floor.
"Fuck!"
I squeaked loud enough to wake Mason.
"Huh?! Oh, it's just you."
He chuckled as he got out of his bed to help me on my wobbly feet.
"There, I got you food."
I squeaked at him in thanks. I ate the food and drank the water really fast, almost choking a few times.
"Whoa, slow down bud. Don't choke."
I glared at him, practicality saying: you expect me not to inhale this amazing food and water even though I haven't eaten in weeks?!
He looked taken aback.
"Whoa, did you just- did you just glare at me? Did a fox just glare at me?" He shrugged.
"You can't understand me can you?"
He asked. I grew nervous. I looked up at him, trying to act dumb.
"Yeah, I didn't think so."
He sighed.
"If only."
I felt kinda bad now. The kid just wants a friend. I looked up at him and squeaked.
"Can you understand me?"
I nodded. He stared at me with a large surprised smile.
"Holy shit, wait-"
He went over to his closet and grabbed two signs. One said yes and one said no.
"Ok, are you a boy?"
He put the signs in front of me. I put my paw on no.
"Ok, ok, so you're a girl. Now, do you want to stay here?"
I had to think. This guy wasn't that bad, but his friends might kill me. I think he saw my heavy breathing.
"Not sure?"
I pat the yes sign. Suddenly, there was a large bang on the door, startling me. I jumped on Mason's shoulder, hiding in his neck.he chuckled at me as he walked over to the door. He opened it to reveal Cam.
"Hey Mas- oh, I see you made a new friend. Figured out what gender it is yet?"
He asked Mason.
"Ah, She's a girl. Isn't she cute when she's not terrified?"
Mason said in response to Cam.
"Hey there girl, can I pet you?"
He put his hand in front of me to sniff. I decided he seemed like a very nice guy, so I rubbed my head on his hand, purring a bit.
"Awe, she likes you Cam."
Mason said. Cam pet my head, making me purr. Another man came up the stairs, but I wasn't sure if he was nice or not, so I growled and hid in Mason's neck.
"Awe, it's so cute, Cam are we gonna keep it?"
The brown eyed man asked.
"Um, I don't know Jay.. We don't know if it's legal to own a fox in Melbourne."
'I'm in Australia, and the brown eyed man's name is Jay.. Ok'
"Mason, can I pet her?"
"If you promise not to hurt her like Eric tried to."
"Why would I hurt such a small creature?"
"Ask Eric that."
I sniffed Jay's hand. I didn't trust him, but I didn't hate him. He's cool I guess. I let him pet me, but I didn't purr.

"That little shit is still here? I thought I said to get rid of it!"
Eric yelled as he heard my squeak on Mason's shoulder.
"Fuckin relax mate. She doesn't bite."
Mason said,
Oh that can be determined.
Mason sat on the couch next to Eric. Eric glared at me as I scooted closer and closer to Mason's neck.
"What are you doing weirdo."
Mason laughed as he gently grabbed me off his shoulder and onto his chest. I curled in a ball as I tried to ignore Eric's burning gaze. I whimpered as Eric wouldn't look away. Mason glanced at Eric, then at me.
"Eric stop staring at her, your creeping her out."
"What does it care? It's an animal."
"She understands what you're saying, stop being a dick."
Mason defended me. I sat up on his chest, admiring his face, and not listening to the rest. His blue eyes were to die for. But they think I'm just an animal, so I can't even talk to him. I was snapped out of my thoughts by Mason grabbing me, putting me on his shoulder, and running up to his room, not locking the door behind him, setting me down on the bed. He laid on the bed. He seemed like he was about to cry. I squeaked in concern. He sighed.
"Cam said I might have to get rid of you.. I don't want to, it's not like they love me. What am I saying, your a fox, I don't think you love me either. Do you?"
I nodded at him.
"That's reassuring. But I might have to get rid of you."
I whimpered as I snuggled up to his chest. It was my way of trying to get him to change his mind.
"It's not my choice, Cam said."
But he's not the boss of you
He pet my head. He started to cry as he looked at me. I whimpered, my eyes watering as he hugged me against his chest. Cam opened the door, closing it behind him. Mason was trying to compose himself,
"What do you want Cam?"
He sniffed as he tried to stop crying.
"Listen Mason, I understand how much you love that fox, but we can't afford to pay for the fee of owning a fox here, it's over $1,000. I hope you can understand. We can only keep her for a few weeks, In five weeks, we're giving her to an animal shelter, so someone who can afford to take care of her gets her."
Mason hid his face in the pillow. I glared at Cam, hissing.
"I'm sorry little guy, we don't have a-"
I growled loudly at him, scaring him enough to stand up.
"Ok, ok God, I'll leave. It doesn't mean we can keep you buddy."
He closed the door as Mason sat there, emotionally broken. I whimpered and licked the tears off his face. He gently smiled at me.
"Let's not focus on sad shit." He sniffed. "I need a name for you."
Timeskip
Mason was looking online for pet names.
"Alice?"
I shook my head no.
"Lucy?"
I shook my head once again, for the 30th time.
"Alex?"
I violently shook my head, hissing.
"Jeez, not Alex.. Ok um, Bella?"
My head struck up. I violently nodded, barking and wagging my tail.
"Bella it is." Mason smiled.

I sat beside Mason as he played a video game. He kept dying, and yelling, which startled me. I squeaked when he yelled.
"I'm sorry bells. This game is fuckin dumb."
I squeaked to tell him to take a break. He sighed, as if he knew what I was saying.
"You're right. I'll take a break." He stood up and put his hand on the bed for me. I knew what he was hinting at, and climbed up his arm and onto his shoulder. He walked out of the room and into the living room.
"Attention everyone!! Don't ruin my mood, I know we're getting rid of her, I don't wanna think about it, but her name is Bella!!"
Eric scoffed.
"He fuckin named it." Eric scoffed.
"Awe"
Jay said
"Mason don't get too attached to her.. We're getting rid of her in-"
"YEAH YEAH WHATEVER, I'm going for a walk." At this point I was on the floor because Mason set me down.
"Come on Bella."
Mason said, signaling for me to follow him, I obeyed, staying by his side as we walked out the door. It was freezing as we walked through the city. It was beautiful when I wasn't being hated or abused. The pretty lights, the stars that you could see in the sky. The beautiful sound of street music throughout the streets. I nipped at Mason's leg to get him to stop. He turned around.
"What is it Bella?"
I whimpered.
"Want up?"
I stood on my hind paws in response. Mason got the point, and held out his hand or me to climb onto. I jumped onto his hand, and he set me on his shoulder.
"Wanna go to the pet store to get a collar so I don't lose you?"
I nodded. He continued to walk, silent as we both admired the city.

Mason POV
Bella was almost asleep on my shoulder as we walked into the pet store. I went up to a store employee.
"Excuse me, do you know where the collars are?"
"Are you planning on engraving the said collar?"
"Yes."
I said. The person led me to a section of collars. One immediately caught my eye, but I wanted Bella to choose.
"Hey, bells, wake up."
She stirred awake. I put her in my hand, and let her look at the collars.
"Which one?"
She leaned her head toward a light pink collar with a metal heart hanging off it.
"You want that one?"
She nodded.
"I was thinking that one too. Let's get it."
I put her back on my shoulder and grabbed the light pink collar. As we walked toward the register, I came across a pet bowl section. I ignored it, but Bella didn't. She squeaked, knowing that I knew why. I sighed.
"Alright, alright."
I let her look at the bowls, and she picked a light pink double bowl. Since she was on the floor, she ran to the toys.
"Bella!"
I ran after her. She had a small mouse toy in her mouth.
"Does it squeak?"
She bit down on it, making a squeaking noise,
"Bella, we can't get it if it makes noise..."
Time skip
She convinced me to get the mouse, and a lot of other stuff we might need. As we came through the door with bags. The guys looked at me confused.
"Did Mason get groceries like a responsible adult?"
Cam asked.
Bella POV
Mason suddenly got really nervous. I don't think he wanted them to know about buying me all this stuff.
"Yeah, but not for you guys."
He quickly grabbed the bags and started running upstairs.
"Come on Bells!"
He said. I ran up behind him. He locked the door after I got inside.
"Alright, here's your collar and toy. I'll wash your new bowl, and- Bella, did you put this in here?"
He pulled out a light pink dress for a small dog. I chuckled.
"Don't laugh, you could've gotten us in trouble!"
He laughed as he pet me. He grabbed out the mini staircase he got, and set it by the bed. I climbed it and sat on the bed.
"Oh, Bells! Come here, I got you some treats."
I barked in excitement as I wagged my tail and walked toward him. He pulled out a bag of cat treats.
"I'm not sure if you'll like them."
I nodded, barking loudly.
"Shh! Cam will yell at me."
He said, chuckling.
"Ok, sit."
I sat. He gave me a treat.
"Stand?"
I stood up, almost falling. He laughed and gave me a treat.
"High five"
I swatted my paw at his hand, giving him a high five. He gave me a treat.
"Come here."
He stuck his arm out. I climbed up his arm, and sat on his shoulder.
"Ok, kiss?"
I booped his cheek with my nose, not wanting to gross him out by licking him.
"Awe."
He cooed as he gave me a treat. I dove off his shoulder and onto the bed, knowing it wouldn't hurt me.
"Jeez Bells."
He laughed.
"MASON, DINNER!"
Cam yelled.
"AND LEAVE THAT STUPID FOX!"
Eric yelled. Mason sighed.
"COMING." He yelled as he set me on the bed and refilled my food bowl.
"I'll wash your new one later. And I have to leave you in here, I'm sorry Bells. I don't want to have to get rid of you. I love you though, come here."
I got closer to him.
"Kiss."
I booped his cheek.
"Good girl. I'll be back soon, ok? You can eat your food too."
He closed the door behind him, and I got a very sudden wave of loneliness and silence. I jumped down the mini stairs, and to my food and water bowls. I nibbled at my food.
Mason POV
There was some sort of tension between me and everyone except Jay. I wasn't sure why. Jay and I just calmly talked about Fortnite, and animals.
"Dude, imagine pets in Fortnite."
"Ah, that'd be so cool."
I said. Cam cleared his throat, getting our attention.
"Mason.. Eric and I need to talk to you about something."
Please don't be about Bella, please don't be about Bella.
"It's about the fox." Cam said. "You're getting too attached to her, buying her all this stuff."
"H-How did you?"
"We're not stupid Mason. You spend too much time and effort into an animal that you aren't keeping."
Cameron said calmly.
"Yeah, and it fuckin stinks, it's all scared up, and no one wants it here."
Eric said.
"I mean I wouldn't mind if-"
Jay started.
"Shut the fuck up Jay."
Eric said, growling at Jay.
Not only did he just insult my Bella, but he insulted by best friend?!
I stood up, slamming my chair back into place.
"Don't you need to eat Mason?"
Cameron asked.
"I've lost my fucking appetite."
I said, disgusted toward Eric. I ran to my room, opening the door, slamming it behind me, and locking it. I slammed myself onto my bed, throwing the covers over myself, and crying.
I felt Bella come under the blanket as she squeaked.
"Bella, why does everyone hate me?"
I said, not expecting a response. She licked my tears off my cheeks, and booped my cheek. I was exhausted from crying. I sniffled once more, and drifted off to sleep with Bella in my arms.
The next day
Bella POV
I woke up in Mason's arms, very comfortable. I jumped down the mini stairs, and grabbed my collar and leash from the bag on the floor. As I held it in my mouth, I jumped back up the stairs, and squeaked to wake up Mason.
"Hey Bells, are you asking for a walk?"
He said, rubbing his eyes. I nodded. He checked his phone.
"Good, it's early enough for no one to know we left. Let's go."
He got up to put on a shirt and some pants. I jumped up the small stairs leading from the floor to the window seal for me. The window was cracked. I stuck my nose out, smelling the air, and shivering. With all my strength, I pushed the window closed, and jumped back down the stairs.
"How cold is it Bells?"
Mason asked me. I went into the bag of my stuff, and grabbed out a light pink hoodie with my mouth.
"Alright, you want your hoodie?"
I nodded, squeaking. He put the hoodie on me. He detached the leash from the collar, and put the collar on me. It said:
