"Dashi!" you yell from the far side of his lab.
Tadashi hears you calling and walks over to where you are, asking, "Is that really your pet name for me? Cuz I hate to break it to you, but, you could to better," he tells you with a hint of teasing in his voice.
You shake your head and roll your eyes at him before returning your focus to the metal joint you're holding.
"No, I'm just too lazy to say your actual name. It's long," you tell him, moving the parts of the joint back and forth.
"It's three syllables," he states.
You spin the machinery around in your hands, barely focused on what he's saying at this point.
"Still too long," you mumble.
Tadashi chuckles and casually puts a hand on your back, asking, "Is something wrong?"
You look up at him, puzzled - you never said anything was wrong...
"With the skeleton," Tadashi clarifies, snapping you out of your confusion.
"Oh, right," you say, handing the joint to him.
Tadashi's first draft of Baymax's skeletal build turned out to be far less than ideal, so they recruited you to help him build a more kinesthetically accurate robot - one that could function much better in any given situation. The extra knowledge you've provided to the project as an EMT certainly didn't hurt either. You've always loved robotics and thought creating them would be super cool, but you hated math and were never huge on the calculations and ultra-mathy parts of it, so when the robotics department started recruiting exercise science students to help out with a project, you didn't hesitate to volunteer.
You've never made a better decision. You and Tadashi had been working on the project - a healthcare robot called Baymax - together for just over a year now, and it's been about a month and a half since you started dating. You still can't figure out how you got so lucky to meet him, become best friends with him and the others in the robotics department, and then be with him. Since the moment you two met, you've bonded so closely, and you can't imagine him not beign in your life.
"So what's wrong with it," Tadashi asked.
"Shoulder joints aren't saddled," you tell him.
A quite confused expression appears on your partner's face.
You smile and clarify, taking the joint back from him to demonstrate: "Hinge joints only move back and forth on one plane, "like this," you say, moving the joint back and forth.
"Shoulders need to have the capability to move in more than just two directions," you continue, "You're trying to create some sort of double-saddle joint for Baymax's shoulder, which is why this isn't working out. Shoudlers are ball-and-socket joints, which allow them to move in 360-degree motions."
"I need to make a new joint..." Tadashi says, sounding exhausted.
You check your watch. You've both been at it for nearly 16 hours straight.
Yikes... you think.
"Yup," you tell him, handing the joint back over.
"Make sure it's a ball-and socket joint this time - for both shoulders. That way Baymax's arm will be able to move across all planes and you'll have a lot less problems with him not being able to reach things," you say, yawning as you finish speaking.
Tadashi sighs and nods his head.
"Okay," he says.
"Hey," you say in a soothing voice, placing a hand on the side of Tadashi's face.
He's still looking at the ground, his body weighted with exhaustion.
God, he's exhausted.
"Love," you say, gently rubbing your thumb against his cheek.
You got his attention this time - his head snaps up and his eyes flicker over to meet yours, a softness growing in them.
"What did you just say?" he asks you.
A faint blush rises in your cheeks as your eyes flit over to stare at the ground before meeting his gaze again.
"Love," you say, smiling, "I said love."
A grin appears on Tadashi's face and the softness in his eyes grows even stronger. You lifts his hand to your face and slowly runs his thumb along your cheekbone.
"So is that your pet name for me now?" he asks.
You start smiling like an idiot and whisper, "maybe."
"Maybe?" he asks, his smile growing wider.
"Yeah," you say, your smile now matching his.
He inches his face closer to yours before asking, "How'd you come up with that?"
You lean your forehead against his and attempt to swallow the nervous lump that was now forming in your throat - unsuccessfully. You've been wanting to tell him this for a while, but you just couldn't get yourself to say it before - it terrified you.
This time, you think to yourself, you're going to say it. This time.
So you take a deep breath and tell him:
"Because I love you."
You swear time literally stopped for a second, the air between the two of you full of anticipation. You finally bring yourself to meet Tadashi's eyes, and when you look into them, you see tears welling in his eyes, full of affection and joy.
He immediately wraps his arms around your torso and lifts you off of the ground, spinning you around before placing you back down, enveloping you in a tight hug and holding you there. You bury your face into his chest and feel tears of joy silently fall from your own face as well.
You both stay there for a moment before you look back up at him and capture his lips in a loving and gentle kiss. As you separate, you lean your forehead against his again, enjoying his presence.
"I knew you could say it," he says a volume just above a whisper.
"It's because I trust you, robot boy," you whisper back.
"Robot boy?!" he exclaims, snapping his head back in surprise and amusement.
You nearly double over in laughter, filled with an overwhelming sense of joy from everything that's going on right now. You nod your head.
"Yeah, robot boy," you say, gasping for air between laughs.
You two had separated fully at this point, both keeling over with laughter.
"Where did you come up with that?!" Tadashi asks.
You stand up and raise an eyebrow at him.
"You're kidding, right?" You ask.
He simply shakes his head and brings you into his arms again, lightly kissing your forehead, nose, and lips.
"Of course not, love," he mumbles against your lips, earning an appreciative hum from you.
"I love you," he says.
"Love you too..." you pause, "robot boy."

Hope y'all liked this one! It felt a bit less OOC for Tadashi (thank God), probably bc I'm not writing this a 4 something in the morning.
Anyways, constructive criticism is always appreciated, and REQUESTS ARE OPEN!
Daily reminder: If you haven't drank a glass of water yet today, go do that - Baymax would be proud of you.
