Patching Each Other Up (part one)

You speed around the corner on your bike, ducking under some metal scraps someone had left hanging out their barred window. The goal is to get home as fast as possible without anyone tracking you down or seeing where you're going. Fortunately for you, at least 10 or 15 other people have the exact same black motorcycle and helmet as you, making it hard for anyone who would be after you to track you down.

You definitely don't live on the best or the safest side of town... or even the mediocre-est side of town. You live on the southeast end of San Fransokyo, which is where most gang and crime related activity goes down. It's also where pretty much all the bot fights take place - or at least the ones that harbored illegal betting and gang activity.

The borderline-sketchy abandoned apartment where you live obviously wasn't your first choice of living arrangements, but it's the only one you can afford. The nicer parts of San Fransokyo are far too expensive - for your budget, at least - and after you came out to your family and the ones that didn't just die in a car crash abandoned you, you've been on your own. Unfortunately for you, being financially independent at age 18 isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world, and you do what you have to do to survive.

So here you are, speeding through the dimly lit alleyways of southeast San Fransokyo at 1:00 in the morning, preparing to climb up the side of your apartment building and through the bars covering your window to make it to your room safe. You would go through the lobby and go to your apartment like a normal human being would, but the elevator never worked and way too many people got stabbed or assaulted in the stairways, and you're not about to go subject yourself to that kind of danger voluntarily.

You're speeding along your usual route when you see a the outlines of a group of people blocking your way in the distance.

Shit, you think.

You recognize those people. Yama and his gang of brainless thugs. You have literally no respect for them, except for how they somehow have managed to remain being the most dangerous and powerful gang on this side of town when the only one with any smarts at all is Yama, who a turtle could outrun. Which is exactly why you're still alive after a few accidental run-ins with them. That, your dirty fighting skills, and your trusty bike, of course.

You slow down and veer off to the side to avoid being seen while you take a look at what's going on up above. You check your watch: 1:42. Your eyebrows furrow together in thought - normally they aren't done with bot fights until at least 2:30 or so in the morning... so why's everyone gone right now?

You look a little closer and you can see why - aww, are they gonna beat up some pathetic wimp for nearly beating Yama in a bot fight again? Gosh, it's gonna hurt for that little sucker - you hate knowing that they're doing this and not doing anything about it. You wish you could, but you know that any efforts on your part to stop it would only end up in you getting hurt, and whoever they're attacking getting hurt even more.

You're preparing to start your bike up and take a different route home when you notice something kinda familiar about the little guy this time around...

Your heart plummets and all the blood drains from your face when you realize who it is...

Hiro.

Change of plans - forget taking a different way home, you have to help the little guy this time around. Since you met your boyfriend Tadashi Hamada after getting to San Fransokyo to start school at San Fransokyo Institute of Life Sciences (SFLS), you truly have become part of his family. Him, Hiro, and Aunt Cass accepted you for who you are and treat you as if you're one of their own. You've never felt more truly loved and legitimately cared for - unconditionally - by any group of people, and you love them all more than anything.
