What Just Happened?

Thursday was just more of the same, Asher in a bad mood. Except for this time in my office and not his. That part of things is really getting on my nerves; he seriously has the audacity to come into my office and try to boss me around? I mean, come on. It's like walking through someone else's house with your muddy shoes on even though you know they just finished mopping. Dick move, right?

Then, again, Monday was another repeat. I was upset last week because he was being hot and cold and now I'm just upset that he's strictly being cold. I was really liking the other side of Asher. Now, it's once again Thursday and I'm heading into work with Violet, crossing my fingers that he's not going to be his normal self. We get off the elevator and pass Sarah just as she's walking out of my office. Vi continues to her door, waving to me as she leaves.

Sarah waits by me for a moment before following Violet. "How is he today?" I ask.

"Don't hold your breath," she mumbles, then walks down the hall. Great, here we go.

Of course, she was right. He has yet again been a jerk the entire day. A little less than he has been, but still a jerk nonetheless. We talked a little more today which meant more arguments, and predictably, I got almost nothing done. I have so much work left to do that I know I'm going to have to stay late.

It's no surprise when it's 5:30 and I have a ton more to do. Asher leaves, Vi comes in and tries to get me to go out with her, Sarah even attempts to get me to go, but I know I need to stay. It's not like I have anywhere better to be. I just sit at my desk, heels on the floor and jacket thrown onto the couch, typing away. I ignore everything and just immerse myself in my work.

The only thing that rips me out of my trance is a knock at the door. I look up at the doorway and see none other than Asher Black leaning against the doorframe. Damn, he looks good. "What are you doing here?" I ask.

He walks in and sits in one of the chairs across from me. "I could ask you the same thing," he says as he crosses his leg, getting comfortable.

"Well, it's my office."

"It's also nearly eight at night. You never went home?"

I turn over to the computer to see that it is indeed 7:50. "I didn't realize what time it was. Which, again raises the question, why are you here Asher?"

"I left my phone earlier and didn't realize until a little bit ago. I would have called, but..." He motions to his desk where I do see his phone sitting behind the keyboard. "I figured the janitor would probably still be here to let me in, and when he did he told me that you were still up here so I just came up."

I just nod, feeling a little awkward. He hasn't really talked like a normal person this much the past few weeks, so I don't even know how to respond. After a moment if silence he reaches across the desk and closes the lid to my laptop. "Scar, can we talk?" He asks.

"About what?"

"Let's go somewhere." What?

I raise an eyebrow to his statement. "Go where? And why? You're not going to kill me or something, are you?"

He laughs that beautiful laugh and smiles at me. "No, I'm not going to do anything to hurt you. I just want to talk, and I figured you probably haven't eaten anything." He's right, I haven't. I honestly didn't plan on being here this long, and I didn't notice how hungry I am until he said something.

Reluctantly, I end up agreeing. "Okay. Where are we going?"

Eventually, we just decide to go to his house. I completely forgot that I caught a ride with Violet this morning, so it's actually pretty lucky that Asher showed up here. Unfortunately, that meant riding the entire way to his house, in the car, with him. I just sit in silence, still too upset with his attitude to even look at him.
