Math is super boring and it's super long. But to help pass time, I keep glancing back at the boy. You know from the family that moved next door, the boy is in my math class.

He's smart, but he just doesn't want to try I can tell.
The teacher also introduced him to the class in the beginning and all he said was:

"I'm Mateo,"

Well at least now I know his name, I wonder about this family. Why did they move? Do they know anything about how my father died?
Why even would they?

I don't know why but they're mysterious and yes, I'm a nosy person and I want to know more.

"Who can come up and answer question 24 in the board for us?" Ms. Cindy looked at Mateo.

When no one raised their hand,

"Mateo since you're new why don't you come up for us and show us what you can do," Ms.Cindy picked on Mateo.
Mateo sighed but got up anyway.

Question 24 was hard, I haven't figured it out yet.

Mateo looked at me when he passes my my desk, his eyebrows are scrunched together but you can still see the hope in his eyes.
I gently smile, I need to be nice. Mateo's head was always down in class showing the sadness he kept in his heart. I need to be nice to people who suffer, that what my mom used to tell me.
He solves the problem on the board and goes back to his seat. He didn't bring his notebook with him, so he probably didn't write anything down and he solved the problem form the top of his head.
He is smart.

"Great job Mateo you got that right," Ms.Cindy congratulates Mateo.

"Yeah, but I know I got it wrong. I'm not smart, I'm just stupid," he responses under his breath.
Everyone hears him.
It's dead quiet.

My heart is beating so fast, I need to tell him he's wrong and that he shouldn't say that because he needs to believe in himself.

Wow, I've read way to many quotes last night.

"Wait no, no, no, no, no, no, no you are not stupid just because maybe one time  you weren't good enough doesn't mean you have to always be that way. You can change your future, stop looking back at your past. You are an amazing person even though I don't know you yet and you, my friend are no way near stupid!" I tell him, I feel so proud of myself I am changing the world step by step, yes I am.

Everyone looks at me, confused. I'm not outspoken, but maybe today that'll change. Ms.Cindy doesn't stop me, in fact she looks proud.

Mateo at first looks confused but then sadness takes over.

"I hope so, I really do," he says and I know he means it.

"Class is over, Charlie please stay back for a second," Ms.Cindy instructs the class , she was probably going to yell at me for choosing the inappropriate time to lecture somebody.
Everyone walked out as I gathered my stuff went to the front of the room in front of Ms.Cindy.

"Charlie in my 8 years of teaching I have never seen someone be this encouraging, amazing, proud, and most of all a great friend, you deserve a gold star." Oh she wasn't going to yell at me, that's why she looked so proud earlier. A gold star, we're in high school not preschool.

"Thank you Ms.Cindy I appreciate that," I genuinely smile.

She took out a gold star sticker and stuck it in my chest. I actually love it, and I'm not taking it off now.

"You are my best student," Ms.Cindy said. Really? I'm actually pretty bad at math.

I walk out of the room with a proud smile on my face, I'm not going to throw away my sticker, or hide it either.

Because I love it.

"Oh look a gold star for the gay," somehow Chloe who wounded up in front of me said.
I don't have time for this, and besides whatever Chloe's opinion of me is does not define who I actually am.

I try to push pass her.

"Hey! What did you just say about my gold star!?"A familiar voice said.

Ms.Cindy once again coming to make me feel better about myself.

"Umm she's gay so that automatically makes her a dumbo,"Chloe says like
Its the most obvious this on Earth.

"Go to your next class Chloe because you have no idea how that makes someone feel, wait actually go to the office. I assume you know the way there." Ms.Cindy again stands up for me.

Chloe growls but walks up the stairs to the office.

"Thank you so much,  she's a pain in the butt,"I thank Ms.Cindy, she shakes her head and throws her arm as if you say anytime Charlie.

We walk opposite directions but I call after her.

"Hey Ms.Cindy, I just want to tell you that I'm not gay, I'm pansexual," I say, as Ms.Cindy pats my head and pulls me into a hug.
I walk to my next class after that.

                              ...

I'm currently waiting outside of the school for Lyla and the other girls. They are walking over to me in a great, huge, big group. Humm I have a feeling I'll be ignored today. Like every day.

"Come on Char," Lyla said, oh wow now I got a new nickname, my name's actually Charlotte though. Everyone calls me Charlie except Elisa, she calls me Charles.

"Are we taking the bus?" I ask

"Yeah, it comes at 4," Lyla says

"It's 3:50 now so hurry up and let's get to the bus stop," another girl, Emerald says.

We wait outside the school, there's a bus stop there.

"Guys did you see Kevin today, he had a white stripped shirt and like AWSOME green pants. He looked so hot. Guys I don't know if I said this before but I call dibs!" Lisa, another girl said. She is boy crazy.

We see a bus, stop in front of us,

"Yep it's the right bus to my house," Lyla says as we all get on.
