August POV

"Hey that goes over here not there . & sweetheart straighten the stockings around the fire place please thank you"

Desire was giving out instructions to her workers that were setting up for the party tomorrow. Man was she a beast. Desire played no games when it came to her business .

I'm here helping out , doing whatever she asks.

"Uh August can you take this painting and put in against the wall in the first guest bedroom please" she asked . "Gotcha" I said taking the painting .

I jogged up the steps , going to the first guest bedroom. I opened the door and sat it down. It was pretty nice in here so I looked around . She had pictures of people on the walls who were foreign to me . One particular picture caught my eye . It was a young Desire and some man. Her father maybe ? I looked around to see if there where any more , but there wasn't .

I seen a lot of pictures of desire and from what I presume to be here grandma but I'm not sure.

"August!" I heard Desire calling me so I went back down. I'd be sure to ask her about the people in the pictures later.

Desire POV

"August!" I yelled out . I needed him to come take some more things upstairs.

Today was most definitely a busy day for me. I always liked to get all the preliminaries out of the way the day before so tomorrow all I would have to worry about would be food .

I took a lot of pride in my promos so this one would be no different and no less than perfect.

"Yes baby ?" August said .

"Yeah all those things sitting together right there need to go to the guest room as well okay?" I told him

"No problem" he said going in that direction. I touched his shoulder and stopped him. "Hey and thanks so much you really didn't have to help out." I told him . "Please it's my pleasure babygirl" he said touching my chin and continued on his path to do what I had asked.

Later on that night

"August stooooop , I'm sorry" I said in a laughing fit as he tickled me .

"Say you sorry!" "Never"
"Well I guess I'll just keep going." He said laughing continuing .

"Okay okay ! I give up!" I said getting up laughing .

"Dang Aug you got my stomach hurting" I said rubbing my tummy

"That's what you get for messing with me gurl" he said . "Gurl ? Boy where you think you from?" I said laughing

"Aye man , my mama was from NOLA" he said smiling . "Really ? So did you grow up there?" I asked

"Naa she moved up here a few years before she had me. She said it was too bad of a place to be raising a child." He said stoping and toying with his fingers.

"Soo does she still live here?" I said finishing my drink and walking to the sink.

"Uh naa . She moved a few years ago." He said sitting his glass down. I sensed a little tension so I didn't want to press the issue.

"Well she raised a mighty fine boy if I do say so myself" I said dusting off his shoulders. "Think so?" "Of course luv, you're amazing" I said kissing his cheek . "Well thanks baby" he said kissing my lips. "I need to get going tho, I gotta go get my baby, her grandma picked her up from daycare for me today so I could come help you" He said standing up .

"August why wouldn't you leave to get her, I had people that could of picked up the slack." I said fussing .

"Because I wanted to come do this for you , plus I knew she woulda been asking to see her GG today anyways ." He explained .

"Oh okay .. is it her mother's mom ?" I asked softly as we walked to the door.

"Yeah , she still wants to be in her life and I got love for her so of course I let her." He said stopping at the door.

"That's good aug" I said standing on my tip toes hugging him as he hugged me back .

"I'll see you lata okay ?" Of course boo I said kissing him and he left.

August POV

I made it to mama Monica's house and instead of just picking my baby up, I decided to talk to her.

I knocked on the door & walked in . "Heeey anybody home" I said hearing little footsteps coming my way.

"Da daaaaaa" Ava said running into my arms .

"How my baby today ?" "Good da da" she said hugging my neck as I walked in the kitchen to find GG .

"Hey ma" I said hugging her . "Heeey suga , how you doing?" "I'm doing pretty good."

"So how is the little girl you been going to see?" She said peering at me over her glasses.

I put my head down chuckling "what make you think there's a girl ma ?" "Boy I am not dumb what's ha name ?" She said laughing and taking a seat. "Ha name is Desire" "Ouu does she bring you fire and desire ?" She said laughing at her own joke .

"You real funny , but I was actually wanting to talk to you about that" I said putting Ava down and she ran off to her play room .

"Talk to me suga" She said.

"So I really like this girl , and I know Essence been sending me signs that's it's time to move on with my life and that I need to pick up an get it together but how do I even start over without thinking I'm betraying her ?"

"Listen son , you and my daughter loved each other very much , and it broke my heart when she died , and for a long time I blamed you and I dreaded the day you moved on honestly , but then I thought , he and her blessed me with a beautiful grand baby , and it was just Essence's time . But then I said to myself Monica na Essence's life did end true enough but it was for a beautiful cause ,  that was her apart of her purpose in this world and once it was complete she could go on home , but August is still alive and he has soooo much life left to live . Baby don't let this hold you back forever , that was a phase in your life that positioned you for the next stage . God don't make no mistakes and God has big plans . Don't fight this , you can't use Essence as a crutch forever . That feeling you feel is God trying to heal you son . This girl could be part of that healing." She said getting up kissing my cheek and going into the play room to kiss Ava goodbye .

On my way out of the door I turned around and hugged mama Monica . "Thank you Ma , really." "No problem baby , and listen next week I'll be out of town so I can't keep Ava" she said

"Okay . Bye mama , I love you" I said . "Love you more."

This was exactly what I needed ..
