Testing Limits

Cole P.O.V.

     Saying my goodbyes to everyone at the post office was a bit of a downer but they all understood that I got a better opportunity for a career. I didn't tell them I was the Candidates' bodyguard, but I did tell them that it was better than what I currently had. Saying bye to Cam was definitely sad, he had been with me from the start. He seemed happy for me though, so I think he understands. My first day as a bodyguard will be the decisive factor...I think anyway. I mean, if they see that I'm not cut out for it, they'll just fire me, right? In any case, I should take this seriously. I got to the Basilicom and went up to the 99th floor. The elevator didn't even ask for my badge this time...strange. After a few steps out of the elevator, I was met by a small girl hurling herself towards me, almost knocking me over. 

-"Cole! You came! I knew you'd keep your promise!" Ram said, obviously happy.

...phrasing.

-"I don't tend to lie about stuff like this, Ram." I said, Ram hanging onto my back.

     I saw Rom peeking around the corner. As expected, she's still shy. I went on one knee before speaking.

-"Hey there, Rom. Remember me?" I asked.

     She nodded slowly. I took one step closer, but that only made her run off. I felt nothing but defeat in that moment. Ram snapped me out of my self-disappointment.

-"Don't worry, Cole. She's pretty shy with new people. Even yesterday, she was nervous but she was too curious about your cool glove to hide!" Ram said.

     Then I'll just have to earn her trust somehow. My thoughts were cut off by Uni's voice coming from behind me.

-"Well you're here earlier than I expected. I was beginning to worry." Uni said in a harsh tone.

-"I knew it, you do care. You just hide it." I said.

-"Wh-what! No! I was just, uh, making sure you didn't go back on your promise! That's all, nothing more!" Uni said, rushing her words a bit.

-"Sure." I said.

     Maybe this is that "tsundere" behavior Cam mentioned earlier.

-"Ah! Perfect, Cole's here." Nepgear said behind me.

     I turn and remember not to bow, giving a small wave instead. 

-"Now that he's here, we can play, right?" Ram asked, still attached to my back.

-"Sure, Ram. Our sisters are out doing quests right now anyway. So we have all the time we want!" Nepgear said.

-"Awesome! I'll go get Rom!" Ram said, launching off me and dashing around the corner.

-"I'll go get some drinks and snacks for all of us!" Nepgear said, walking to the kitchen.

     That leaves just me and Uni. I go over and stand by the entrance as I expect a bodyguard would do. Although Uni just gives me a confused look.

-"What are you doing?" Uni asked.

-"Um, where am I supposed to stand?" I asked.

-"What do you mean? You don't have to stand anywhere specific."

-"Even though I'm your bodyguard? I thought I had to follow a certain routine."

-"Well, you don't. You just need to stick around and stay close. That's about it."

     This might be a more laid back job than I thought. Although Uni still seemed to be waiting for me to do something.

-"Well? What are you waiting for? Grab a controller." Uni said.
