Kid's P.O.V:
Ella dropped her scythe as she read the words on the wall. I stood next to her, and read them as well.
"Did you know that our blood is black?"
The words etched themselves in my brain. "Ella... We have to save Soul... Even if he-" Ella shot me a glare. "I know. I'm pretty reluctant about this, but we have to save them. It would be inhumane not to."
I nodded, calling my dad through my rings. "Hello, hello, hello! Wazzup?!" My dad asked, bouncing backwards so we could see his body fully. Ella's face was still expressionless, as was mine.
"Father... Um... Maka took Soul." My father tilted his head in confusion. "But... Mrs. Marie had cured her. We saw it..." I said, shaking my head. My father stood in front of me, not moving.
"It wasn't enough." He grumbled. Ella looked at him with furrowed eyebrows.
"What do you mean, 'not enough'?" Dad looked at Ella. "It's like... Think of Maka's soul as a blank sheet of paper. Perfect at first. Now imagine the black blood consuming her soul, or bending the paper. The paper, now crumpled into a ball, resembles her insanity. Even when you straighten the sheet, it will still have creases and bends that simply cannot be undone."
He paused to make sure we were still following along. "Mrs. Marie only straightened the sheet. Maka's soul is still insane and her body still has traces of black blood within her. Although she looks to be completely intact and normal, she simply is not. No matter how hard we try... Maka cannot be saved from the madness. It is simply too much. Soul was already told this. He was told this when Maka was first driven to the brink of insanity. And now that Maka has him... I'm afraid that if we are too late, Maka will become something threatening. Their soul wavelengths when resonated can make them incredibly strong... And with the help of the black blood... It could possibly make them unstoppable. And... If Soul chooses to go down the wrong path... He could become a Kishin."

Ella's P.O.V:
Kid was silent. He didn't even look up at me. "Kid...? Kid are you okay...?" I asked, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"He... He knew." Kid murmured, pursing his lips. I tilted my head. "What do you mean?" He raised his head slightly, his golden-brown eyes meeting mine. "He knew Maka couldn't be saved. Yet... He still went for her."
I froze. Kid was right. "I... You're... Right." I couldn't even conjure up the right words to say. Lord Death looked at us. "Well, you two know what you should do. Save Soul. For the good of mankind."
His image began to fade, leaving us alone. I looked at the words that were encrypted in the wall beside us. Shaking my head, I held out my hand, willing for my scythe to levitate into it.
It dissipated into smoke on my command. I took a deep breath, trying to conceal the tears that were threateningly burning my eyes.
"Kid, let's go get everyone else." I murmured, walking out the door. He caught up to me, grabbing my wrist to stop me. "Ella, don't let this get to you. Don't worry... Soul and Maka were just really close..."
I shook my head in disapproval. "No. They were more than that. I could tell. Soul even admitted it... He said... He..."
"I still love her."
The words still burned into my subconscious, singeing my memory with every letter as they repeated in my mind.
I whimpered, letting a tear escape my eye. I wiped it with my sleeve and turned, smiling at him.
"Never mind." I said, trying so hard to keep that smile plastered on my face.
"It's nothing important."
-
Kid's P.O.V:
"It's nothing important." She said, smiling at me as if nothing had affected her. "No. Something is wrong. Ella, don't try and hide if from me. You're my friend. Let me help you."
Her smile began to quiver, and her eyes became glassy. She let out a shaky breath, and collapsed into my arms. "I-I-I can't do it anymore, Kid. He said he still loved her. I... I loved him, you know..." I hugged her tightly, resting my chin on hers.
This girl, she's so broken. Broken by the one whom she loved. I could tell she didn't want to do this mission. But, we had to.
"Shh, it'll be okay... Trust me... One day you'll be in Soul's arms, thinking about this day. Trust me. You'll be okay. Both of you will be okay." I said as she tightened her grip on me.
She scoffed. "I don't believe you." I smiled at looked down into her crimson red eyes. "Jeez, she's beautiful..." I thought, tucking the red streak of hair behind her ear. "No, Kid. She belongs to Soul..."
"But... What if she didn't..."
She pulled away from our embrace, wiping the tears from her face with her sleeve. She turned to me and gave me a large, confident smile.
Ella sniffled, but kept her smile on. With her scythe appearing in her hand, she strode out of the room, not looking back. "Let's go."

Ella's P.O.V:
I couldn't break like that again. I couldn't show my fear. I needed to forget.
I needed to let go of myself.
I looked at Kid, who was staring at me awkwardly. My hand twitched, causing my scythe to wobble in my fingers. Tightening my grip, I exited the apartment door without a second thought.
Kid caught up to me, putting his hand on my shoulder. "Where are we going again?" I paused. "To get the others. If we're gonna save Soul's ass, then you're gonna need your weapons, am I correct?" I stated, raising an eyebrow.
Kid sighed and rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I guess." I smirked and continued walking. "I rest my case."
~~ Time Skip ~~
Patty gasped after we told her the story, while Liz was cowering in a corner. "I am not, repeat, not coming with you guys. It's dark, and it's scary, and there are probably ghosts that'll want to eat my soul and I am not up for that! I'm too young and too pretty to die!" She said, shivering.
I rolled my eyes, grabbing her by the wrist and yanked her up to her feet. "You're coming. That's that."
Kid stopped at the door. "No. No, we can't do this." I raised an eyebrow as Liz began to celebrate. "Kid, you're the one who wanted to save Soul, why can't we do this?"
He shook his head, turning to the sky above us. "We can't just march into wherever whenever we want. We need a plan. We need... We need help."
I thought for a second, and then an idea popped in my head. "We could get the other students! Black Star, Ox, Kim, and Kilik! They're the best meisters of the academy." Kid smirked. "Well, besides us."
I nodded and willed my scythe to appear. I admired its form. The matte coat of its obsidian handle, the beautiful wisps of red smoke curling around the sharp titanium blade that gleamed in the light.
The thing I admired most was the snake that wrapped its body around the handle. It was a part of me. A huge part.
After all... It was a part of my soul.
