~kim yugyeom, a silk-stocking, arcane 27-year-old in charge of overseeing the chain of hotels his family has all around korea. being one of the heirs of the family business, he has spent his entire life from adolescence to adulthood mastering the packs and plugs of succesfully running a big leaguer like the kim group.
a firm series of knocks were heard on the boss' wooden door, "hey yugyeom, bam and i have checked the applicants' credentials and only a few passed the company's standards. do you want to check their abstracts now?"
im jaebum, 29, kim yugyeom's personal advisor. he has been working with yugyeom since he took over his family's business when he turned 21. being the critic he is, yugyeom barely trusted anyone regarding business decisions except jaebum, which the younger always asks advice from.
"how many, hyung?" yugyeom asked, still focused on his work. it is currently 12 am and he has been working nonstop for the past week due to a rising threat regarding his company's rivalry with the viper group of companies. in addition to this, some of yugyeom's employees decided to quit from all the workloads the company had been demanding from them. somehow luckily, jaebum has been able to find replacements for those who left.
"a little more than what we needed. four males, i personally have checked their credentials and all of them have exceptional business and mathematical knowledge. im thinking of assigning them to work with you so you could assess them closely. but, if it's only okay for you?" jaebum sat in front of yugyeom's table, placing the applicants abstracts beside yugyeom who was currently typing on his laptop. he stopped to look at the résumés, but later on continued working on his laptop. "read them for me, hyung. i need to finish this by tonight." jaebum flipped through the first few pages, stopping at the page where the first applicant's credentials and photograph were. interesting face. he thought to himself.
"choi youngjae, south korean. certified public accountant, bachelor of science in accounting, sungkyunkwan university."
"tuan yi en, also mark tuan, taiwanese ethnicity, american nationality. he's been living in seoul since he was a teen. bachelor of arts in finance, korea advanced institute of science and technology."
"wang jia er, or jackson wang. he's from hong kong but has been living in seoul since he was a teen. bachelor of science in accounting, korea university business school."
"park jinyoung, south korean. he's originally from busan but moved to seoul to study since he was a kid. certified public accountant, seoul national university."
jaebum finished and arranged them neatly on top of yugyeom's file rack, "all fresh graduates."
yugyeom was already quite impressed with their credentials, but was still hesitant due to the applicants' lack of work experience. even so, it leaves him no choice but to see for himself what the applicants could do to help the company rise up to be number one in south korea again.
"hyung, do you think they'll be much of a help with our company? they don't have work experience and it's only a matter of perfection or nothing in our case right now. there's certainly no room for error." yugyeom deeply sighed and stared at the glass pane window behind his work table.
"gyeom, based from their credentials, i dont think we'll be having a hard time teaching them how to move around the company. plus, we dont really have another option as of the moment."
yugyeom nodded, losing and having a bit of hope at the same time by thinking about what could go wrong or right with the new employees. "contact them, i want to meet them tomorrow afternoon to discuss the contract terms."
"alright, its past midnight now gyeom. i think you should take a break and rest. its been a tough week for you." jaebum was right, yugyeom was awake for 36 hours now, trying to figure out new strategies to lift their company in the ranks again.
yugyeom stared at the midnight sky with his hooded eyes. his pupils turning into the same hues of smokey grey and bluish tones of the clouded sky. he needed something to clear off his mind, and so he decided to rest and follow jaebum to the seventeenth floor of the building wherein their private rooms are located, since both of them always had to work later than the rest of the employees.
jaebum patted yugyeom on the back, proceeding to his room beside the latter's. the younger then unlocked his room, taking off his clothes along the way and slumping his tired being on the silky mattress. breathing heavily, yugyeom's eyes hid in pairs as the weariness embraces him into deep slumber.
