At the stroke of midnight Pip sat up in bed, he looked to his left and saw that Larry was sat up too. 'Oh yes!' he thought as he remembered the events of that evening. He got out of bed excitedly and he and Larry walked into Fatty's room to find him standing there waiting.
"Shall we go then?" Fatty asked, taking a torch out of his pocket. The three walked out into the hallway to find Daisy and Bets waiting for them.
"Bets, you will keep watch around the corner in case anybody comes." Fatty instructed.
"But what if someone does come?" Pip asked, believing his sister would be incapable of helping.
"I shall pretend I am lost and persuade them to help me find the bathroom. I'll also pretend to cry loudly so you know that someone's there." Bets replied confidently. Fatty smiled, he knew that Bets was one of the best Find-Outers, even if Pip didn't.
They all made their way down the corridor, Bets carried on slightly further to her place around the corner.
"Third panel up..."
"... in the centre".
"I wonder how it opens?" Fatty pondered.
"It made a clicking noise when those men opened it this afternoon," said Daisy. Fatty pushed the panel. It didn't move. They tried everything, tilting, turning, pulling, pushing, shoving, but the panel remained unremarkable apart from being slightly set back from the rest. Larry fell back and say on the floor, deflated. "I think weist've misheard The panel moved out of the way with a click revealing a large empty space.
"I don't understand," said Pip disappointedly.
"Neither do I," added Fatty, "but I intend to."The four searched the small space thoroughly but to no avail. Just as they were about to give up they had a shock. Someone was coming up the stairs! Daisy gasped as Fatty and Larry hastily pulled the panel upwards and clicked it back into place. They hadn't expected anyone to come from downstairs - they'd expected everyone to be asleep in their rooms. The four investigators only just made it back to their rooms in time.
"What about Bets?" whispered Daisy.
"She'll just carry on with the plan," said Fatty.
"I do hope so," said Pip doubtfully.
