The summer was now over and Skye was getting her new school supplies she would need for tenth grade, Dick watched as she looked over her schedule and back at the supplies she’d need.

“Come on it didn’t take me this long.” Dick groaned, faking agony.

“Well unlike you I don’t take study halls, its all advanced placement for me!” Skye grinned before remembering how her mom had always encouraged her to take hard classes.

            “Skye are you okay?”

She turned to face him and shrugged. “Yeah, just nervous. I don’t know anyone there and you won’t be in any of my classes except Advanced Science.”

“Yes the one advanced class I’m taking.” Dick smirked and put a hand on her shoulder. “You’re smart, pretty, and will beat them to a pulp if necessary. I’m sure everyone will want to be your friend.”

“I don’t know how to fight. Unless you count just trying to copy fighting moves I saw on TV.”

“Bruce is letting me teach you the basics of self-defense!” Dick laughed and started dragging her towards the checkout.

“Hey I haven’t gotten my binder yet!” Skye protested.

He pulled out a black one and handed it to her. “Looks like I got the rest of supplies.”

Skye took it from him and they paid for their supplies before leaving, she put the back into a case on the back of her black and red motorcycle before getting on. Beside her Dick got on his black and blue motorcycle and revved the engine.

            “Race you home.”

“You’re on!” Skye shouted as she sped off ahead of him.

“Cheater.” Dick muttered and drove off after her.

Skye felt the wind whipping past her as she dodged the traffic, the light up ahead turned red but she streaked past it and skidded under a semi truck. Dick shouted something but she couldn’t hear what it was over her breathing and heartbeat, instead of stopping though she righted her motorcycle and kept driving towards Wayne Manor. Skye parked in the garage beside her black sports car and went inside, she waved to Alfred and quickly went into her room so Dick couldn’t start yelling at her about what she did. She knew he was just trying to keep her safe but sometimes she couldn’t help things like that happening, of course this time it might have been her fault, she admitted.

“Skye, where are you?” Dick shouted as he came in.

She didn’t answer; he knew where she was so why bother. He ran up the stairs and knocked on her door a few minutes later, just like she’d expected. She walked over to the door and opened it while grinning like nothing had even happened.

            “What is it?”

“Are you okay? What were you thinking?” Dick growled. “Do you know what Bruce would do to me if I let you die?”

“Please, I’m surprised Bruce even remembers to eat. Haven’t you noticed? He’s doing the zombie style.”

“Fine then what about me?” He gave her a pleading look. “What am I supposed to do without my sister?”

“You’ve only known me for like two months.” Skye rolled her eyes.

            “You’re still my family.”

            “Don’t worry I’m fine. I won’t do that again I promise.”

Dick calmed down and turned away. “School starts tomorrow. It’s going to be a nightmare for you.”

“I’ve studied the map I know where I’m going. Besides you said I’d make friends.”

“Unless you decide to be a klutz and trip down some stairs.” Dick joked before running into his room to dodge a book being thrown at him.

He laughed and turned on the TV, the news lady came on with a picture of some of Gotham’s top villains.

“Unfortunately today we had a break out in Arkham Asylum today. The known escapees are Joker, Harley, Riddler, Scarecrow, and Two-face. We advise you to stay inside and only go out with a group to avoid being killed.”

Dick called Bruce who was probably in the cave. “Hey did you see the news?”

“Yeah. Keep an eye on Skye for me, I can’t let her get hurt.” Bruce told him.

“Of course.” He paused. “She hates you, do you know that? You’re never around. Skye wants to get to know her father.”

He could almost see Bruce’s grimace. “It’s safer this way.”

“For now.” Dick replied as he heard Bruce hang up.
