Mackenzie's POV
"Everyone I'd like for you to welcome back Nadia Turner. I'm sure most of you all remember her from last year. Let's give her a warm welcome." The teacher warned slowly clapping her hands waiting for everyone to join in. Annie and I sat their jaws dropped. Then it hit me. She had to be the one that was with Johnny yesterday.
"Thank you, Ms. Thompson, and thanks for the warm welcome guys. It's really nice to be back." Nadia said surveying the classroom. Her gaze ceased on me and I couldn't help but let out a low growl.
"Why don't you take a seat beside Jessica for the remaining of the week, so we can get you settled in." Nadia nodded her head making her way up the staircase next to the blonde. It was either I was seeing things or I'm just paranoid but, I could've sworn that girl is trembling like an earthquake was happening.
"Annie, do you see that girl shaking, or is it just me?" I whispered leaning over to Annie's side. She picked her head up leading her eyes to where my finger pointed. She stared for a moment before nodding her head askance.
"She looks scared. Maybe of Nadia." She stated. I let out a bitter laugh but quickly covered my mouth realizing what I just did. Annie's cheeks flushed red as all eyes were literally on us. Or should I say to me?
"Is there something you'd like to share Miss Ziegler or are you just plain ignorant?" Miss Thompson spoke with a frown. She always has to speak with flare. But I let my anger get the best of me.
"My your just hearing shit," I whispered but from the look on her face, it said otherwise. Gasps were heard all over the room, even Hayden looked shocked at my language.
"I've been teaching 30 years of high school and I'm just hearing shit. Well, why don't you go to the principles office and see if he's hearing shit?" She pointed to the door making sure to open it on her way out. I rolled my eyes before gathering my things and walking down the stairs. If I wasn't mistaken I could've sworn I saw a smile on Nadia's face.
Annie's POV
As Mackenzie left the room the class burst out in a fit of laughter. My face burned from embarrassment even though I had nothing to be humiliated of. After a few minutes of trying to calm the class down, she finally got back to the lesson.
After class
"I can't believe Kenzie said that. And even out loud." Hayden said walking me to the principles office. Before we could get a glimpse of it a hand made its way to my shoulder squeezing it tightly.
"Annie? I've missed you so much." A small blonde said embracing my waist. I looked down and couldn't help but smile at the familiar blonde locks.
"I missed you to Ruby. How have you been?" I said hugging back. After a minute of hugging, we pulled away our smiles reaching our ears.
"I'll leave you guys to talk," Hayden said before kissing my cheek and walking away. I smiled softly at him before he could completely disappear.
"I've been good. Nadia's getting on my nerves but other than that I'm good." She joked. Prior I could reply to the first bell rang for the next class. Ruby's smile softened but quickly recovered before walking away.
"They couldn't have been weirder," Mackenzie said making me jump at least 2 feet in the air.
"Geez Kenzie calm down. You scared the hell out of me." I spoke trying to get my breathing back in check. I could hear her faint laughs next to me.
"I'm not the one jumping like 5 feet in the air." I rolled my eyes strutting away to the class which we're about to be late for. I could feel her presence following me throughout the hallway before splitting ways.
At lunch
I walked I to the cafeteria scanning the room. I wasn't in the mood for food right about now. Finding a spot by the window I walked over pulling out my phone and never taking my eyes off of it.
"Look what we have here." A know strawberry haired girl spoke from behind. I rolled my eyes to the back of my head slowing turning around to be face to face with satin itself.
"Annie, where's Kenzie? Usually, she'd be following you like a lost puppy." She sneered pretending to search the room. It took a lot inside of me not to throw her lunch on her face right now. But of course, like the good girl, I am I sided against it.
"I-I don't know. Just leave me alone Nadia." I spoke softly but firmly. She looked taken back by my answer but that quickly went away being replaced by darkness. Or her lunch tray being squashed in my face.
"Annie! Are you ok? I told you to slow down the eating or you'll choke." I threw the plate from my face. Gravy, corn, and an unknown liquid dripping from my face onto my lap. I could hear Hayden calling out to me but my ears were muffled from the food.
"Annie!" He called but I was halfway out the lunchroom. I ran down the hallway and into a room that I recognize as a bathroom. But not mine.
"Annie?" Another voice called to me. I opened my eyes to be met with green ones.
"Carson?" I breathed running to hug him but quickly stopped realizing I was covered in today's special. He opened his mouth to speak but Hayden burst through the doors before he could.
"Annie, why are you on the boy's bathroom?" He demanded. I was taken back by his attitude but he didn't give me time to answer for he shoved a cloth on my face. I started to see clearly now the food is gone. I still felt itchy and slimy.
"Don't worry Annie she isn't gonna get away with this. We're gonna get her back."
