Chapter 3
The drive was fairly quiet for Sanders and his men with the exception of a few whines and whimpers coming from the now normal looking boy. Sanders couldn't help but wonder about the wings that the boy previously had only a few minutes ago. He started to doubt his own observation of them. Maybe he was over worked, maybe he just needed some rest but the memory of the shocked expression of his men only proved that the boy's wings really were there.
Throughout the car ride the other five men could not help but take side-ward glances at the boy with shocked expressions. As if planned, they all asked simultaneously what happened to the boys wings. Sanders just shrugged off their question as if saying how should I know. And it was true. The man had absolutely no clue what was going on with the unconscious boy in his arms.
Once Sanders and his men arrived at the hospital he was careful not to hurt the boy. The man cautiously got out of the car and made his way to the hospital doors. His men silently followed behind him. Walking inside the doors Sanders couldn't help but take notice of the plain white walls and annoying, burning smell of antiseptic and latex. The man felt the boy shift in his arms but did not care to see why. The man was too focused on the group of doctors and nurses rushing towards him. Sanders looked behind his men and nodded, telling his men to head back to head quarters and he will stay behind with the boy. Maybe the boy could answer some questions for his rescuers at a later date.
An older man who looked in his forties came up to Sanders and gave a quick glance to the boy in his arms. The doctor seemed impatient and just wanted to get the examination and treatment of the boy over with. True he didn't know what had happened to the boy but he didn't really care. The doctor attempted to take the boy from Sanders arms but the oddest thing happened. As soon as the boy was placed in the doctors arms he started to violently shake. At first the doctor thought the boy might be having a seizure of some kind but on closer inspection realized it was a reflex of the boys subconscious. What could have happened to this boy that he even shakes in his sleep when touched.
The doctors thoughts were interrupted as he felt his arms suddenly become lighter. He looked down and saw that the boy was no longer in his arms but in the arms of the man called Sanders. The doctor was about to shout at the man when he realized that the boy had stopped his shaking. Sanders couldn't help it. Once he saw the boys reaction to be taken away from him he was hit by a sense to protect the boy and immediately grabbed him. The man didn't think the doctor was bad or meant harm in an way it was just like a maternal instinct over took him and controlled his actions. For some reason the man was pleased when he saw that the boy stopped shaking in his arms.
The doctor started walking away and Sanders quickly followed him not wanting to waste the doctors time. They reached a small room and the doctor pointed to a cushioned table to lay the boy down on. Sanders did so but held onto the boys hand in order to prevent any further shaking. The doctor pushed everyone out of the room so it was just him, the boy and Sanders. He put on his latex gloves and walked over to the examination table the boy was now laying on. The doctor slowly removed the blanket but gasped as soon as it fully came off. He could not believe the condition the boy was in. The doctor saw the bruises, cuts and blood.
Sanders could not bare to look again and just turned his head away trying to ignore the trauma the boy must have gone though. The doctor took a moment to come back to reality too and started to thoroughly examine his body. He noticed that the boy was extremely malnourished, with all bones visibly sticking out just itching to pierce the skin that laid above. The doctor then moved on too the rest of his body mentally jotting down what materials he would need to help heal the boy. When he finally got to the boys lower waist he noted the blood smears and cringed. Sanders saw this and told the doctor about taking a rape kit to see if the boy was violated or not. The doctor hated cases like these but had no choice. As the doctor tested for rape the boy would whimper and try to move but Sanders held him down saying calming words like "its alright", or "I'm here shh".
The doctor wondered if the other man had any connection to the boy considering the way he was coddling him. As if Sanders could read his mind the man told the doctor that he was only trying to ease the boys suffering and no he was in fact not related to the boy but could not help but feel a connection to the boy for some reason. The doctor nodded and was happy that someone cared for the boy even though the rape kit tested positive. Maybe he won't have to be in do much pain mentally and physically with a man like Sanders around the doctor thought to himself. The doctor then went to work cleaning the other wounds and bandaging them.
The sound of a ring-tone going off made both men jump slightly and Sanders quietly apologized while fishing his phone out of his pocket. The man answered his phone only to be greeted by one of his five men. They had said that he "needed to come back immediately and fill out a report stating what happened". With a sigh and goodbye Sanders hung up but not before looking down sadly at the boy, realizing he would have to leave him at the hospital alone.
By this time the doctor had done all he could to help the boy recover and was ready to move the boy to a private hospital room. Sanders carefully picked up the boy, placing the blanket back around him and made sure not to aggravate any of his injuries in the process and carried him to a large room that would have an observation window that could double as a mirror, down the hospital corridor. The doctor opened the door and led Sanders to a bed covered in white sheets. He put the boy down, removed the blanket and carefully dressed the boy in a hospital gown as to not reveal anything.
Meanwhile the doctor went to a cabinet on the wall next to the bed and pulled out a syringe, bag of saline, a bag of liquefied food and two more needles. First the doctor drew blood from the boy then proceeded to place the two needles in the boy's hand piercing the skin opposite to his palm. One needle was to give the boy the much needed the nutrition he was seriously lacking and the other to help keep the boy hydrated.
Once Sanders saw the boy was stable and settles he excused himself from the room and closed the door heading to the hospital exit. He would return to the boys side and check up on his after he finishes all of his paperwork. The doctor was still in the room with the boy and was taking down a couple of notes when he heard sheets rustling. Looking at the bed his jaw dropped and eyes bulged out of his head at what he saw.
