I have a confession

Even though I should be exhausted, I wasn't. I was beaming and full of excitement, I couldn't sleep last night, not with the memory of Colton fresh on my brain. I was more than ready to start the day and see him.

Of course, I'd have to figure out a way to get Dillion to be okay with it.

Ma had an all nighter at the hospital and still hadn't come home so Carmiah and I had to walk to school but neither of us complained. Carmiah and I talked on the way there and when I say Carmiah and I talked- I really just mean Carmiah talked.

"Tobias likes me, I know he does, he acts like he's hard but I know better. That man be LOOKING looking at me, giving me the eyes. Don't he be looking at me 7th period Kayla? I know you be seeing him looking at me."

"OKAY, he's been checking you out".

I love her, I really do but if she says the word 'looking' one more time, I'll run into traffic. Carmiah rolled her eyes.

"Carmiah, I remember one time you vowed you would never date nor talk to a white boy". Carmiah looked straight ahead and pressed her lips.

"That's what I said and what about it". I raised my eyebrows amusingly. She really acting stupid like Tobias ain't white.

"If you hadn't notice....Tobias is a white boy hun". I said in a mocking tone looking at the school in the far distance.

"Correction, he is a white MAN, get ya facts straight...biscuit". I grimaced.

"You know I hate being called biscuit, stop"

"Bis-"

"stop"

"-cuit"

"Carmiah, I said stop"

"Biscuit"

Before I could shoot back, a convertible came to a smooth stop ahead of us. We stopped in our tracks and eyed the car....the car was pretty nice though, sleek black and shiny.  Suddenly the car reversed, making it's way back to where we are. Carmiah and I took a couple steps back.

Soon the car was directly in front of us. Before I could run, something stopped me.

"Hey love, need a ride?"

Before I could decline Carmiah jumped into the car head first. I walked to the car window to see the one and only Tobias.

Of course.

"Hey Tobias". I gave an awkward wave.

"Hey Jakayla," he said giving me a knowing smile. He chucked his head back signaling me to get in. I took a moment to look at my surroundings. I don't really know Tobias that well so I'm not sure if getting in the car is good judgement. I glanced at my sister looking at me with pleading eyes. Before any other thought, I walk to the backseat and hop in behind Carmiah. I set my phone down on the seat.

Tobias puts the car in drive and zooms off.

Tobias and Carmiah shared a look then awkwardly looked away. She looked at me with a sly grin and mouthed:

"He gave me the look"

We get to school without any trouble for once. People have gotten used to Carmiah and I, it's honestly a relief. Having people stare at you and take notice in everything you do is kind of nerve racking. I'm just excited to see Colton today at lunch.

We really hit it off yesterday and I feel we might be moving in a whole new direction.  Who knew that Colton and I could actually be friends.

Are we friends?

Do I even want to be friends?

Are we.... more?

My eyes scanned the halls for him the entire day but he is no where to be found. Maybe I'm being a little obsessed , maybe I am thinking to much about it. He probably takes all his little toy things to that place. Then again...would he tell the same thing he told me about his mom to everyone though?

I was pulled out of my thoughts when I heard a sweet voice.

"The usually baby?"

"Yes ma'am," I said to the lunch lady. She grabs the chips off of the cart and places it on my tray, she starts to load my tray with meat lettuce and thick gooey cheese.  The thing I like about this lady is that she isn't selfish with the food. She never puts just a dab of cheese, she puts the whole thing.  The way ATL lunch ladies serve You'd think they was salt bae with that little sprinkle of meat.

"Is that all hun?"

"Yes ma'am, thank you," I smile as the lady hands me my tray.  I make my way down the isles to Dillion, I can't help but look over to the table directly behind us. My breath hitches as I see him in his performed form. He is sitting where he normally sits, doing what he normally does (looking unbothered and monotone...basically dead looking) except instead of Brittney being up against him, there is a chair set between the both of them creating a barrier. I can't help but smile.

"Hey Kayla," my head snapped to Dillion. I gave him a wave and made my way over to the table. With one last glance I sat down.

Dillion was eating- more like inhaling his soft tacos. I took a moment to look at him, He really looks at peace right now. I was gonna tell him about me liking Colton but I mentally can't fix my mouth to say it. He's my only friend here..a pretty good friend at that. I sigh a long sigh, he should know the truth. I hope Dillion doesn't hate me.

I mentally prepare myself for the upcoming conversation.

"I have a confession to make..." I start. Dillion looks up from is meal with his mouth full. He swallows and takes a drink of lemonade.

"uhh...yea what is it?" His eyebrows are quirked and his elbow rest on the table with his lemonade in hand, I look down not knowing what to say next. I want to back out but I already opened up my mouth..my fate is seal. I can't find the words, I know how he feels about Colton, yet here I am liking him. I am the worst friend on God.

"Lord, Is it that bad?" He laughs

"I like Colton" His laugh stops immediately.

I've been busy, I apologize, Sophomore year wasn't no punk. Sis almost failed. (Shout out to Mrs. Labo for not letting me skip that Final). I AM a JUNIOR now. I just got back from State choir for solos and for cheer camp in Austin. My voice is gone and my whole body isn't even properly functioning like a regular human being.

Anyways, I wrote this short little update just to get active again.
