Warning: contains brief mention of depression

John Laurens was born in SC. And if you know anything about the south(even to this day) it's significantly a lot more religious and unexcepting then the north.(not saying everyone's like that, it's just a stereotype) John was in a very religious and slave owning household, and with the all the pressures to be straight as well, you'd see how all that would wear on a someone. Especially if they're gay abolitionist. Because of this, his mother, and a lot of his siblings dying at a young age—and maybe a few other contributors as well—John fell into a deep depression.

(I was gonna put this in the last paragraph but it didn't flow well with what I wrote so I'm writing it here.) If you have any doubt in your mind that Laurens was gay, you're simply misinformed, my friend. John was known for not bonding well with the opposite sex at all. It seams like the only girl he really did love was his sister, Martha. And it wasn't even romantic love, just brotherly and sisterly love is all. Henry, John's father tried to explain away John's gayness by insisting that John was simply a late bloomer and that he'll catch on eventually.(hint: he never did)

Later, John's family moved to Europe and John went to Geneva, Switzerland for his studies. There, he met Francis Kinloch, possibly the worst boyfriend in world history. He was apart of John's first gay relationship, and, as most first gay relationships go, dragged on for way to long. Although, there is evidence that they did love each other, they argued a lot about politics, you see, John was a patriot and Kinloch was a loyalist. In one of the letters Kinloch wrote to John, he starts being all cute and stuff but then out right dumps him. Yup.

Fast forward a few years and John, much to his dismay, was send off to law school. Nothing much to say here except that, probably out of spite, he got drunk and impregnated this girl named Martha Mannings, a family friend. John, wanting to redeem himself, married her, so they could rise their unborn child together. So there John was. In a law school he wasn't interested in, married to a woman he didn't love, and getting ready to care for a child he didn't want. Great.

Wile Martha was 6 months pregnant, John fled to America to join the war. Many arrangements were made to bring Martha along too, but none of them succeeded. John joined the war to get away from his father, have a legacy, and well...die. He became Washington's Aide de camp, where he met Alexander Hamilton.
