Falling. He was falling.
Maya watched as a flash of gold and red flew by her, heading straight towards the ground below. Her breathing was heavy as she jumped off of the building and after him. All she could hear was the faint sound of her own breathing and the screams coming from the Chitauri that were trying to claw at her.
A scream escaped her lips as sharp claws scratched her arms and back, but she didn't let up. She could feel the wetness of her own blood soaking her clothes and the stinging sensation that came when the cool air made contact with her skin was enough to make her hiss. But she wasn't worried about herself; she was worried about the man who was falling further away from her and closer to the ground below.
With one more click of her boots, Maya went flying towards him. The ground was close now, but Maya was within arms reach. She stretched her arm out to reach for him, but he wasn't conscious, so he couldn't reach back.
It was up to her now.
She stretched her arm out as far as she could as her eyes flickered down to the ground that was only a few seconds away. Her fingers brushed against the cool metal, but right as she went to grab ahold, he slipped out of her grasp and hit the ground.
Maya slowed herself down and stared at the sight below her in silent horror. His mask was thrown to the side, the impact of the collision having tossed it aside like it was nothing. Blood dropped out from the side of his mouth as his eyes stared into nothingness.
Her heart was beating fast now as she struggled to breath properly. Maya slowly descended to the ground before landing next to the man and kneeling beside him. "Dad?" She asked, her voice coming out in a whisper. There was no response.
Maya felt tears filling up her eyes, but before she could so much as blink, a hand was around her throat. Maya let out a gasp of shock as her father turned to look at her. "It's your fault," he told her, his own blood gurgling in his throat as he did so.
"You could've saved us," Tony told her as he gestured towards the rest of the team who were all lying dead on the ground around them. His eyes flickered over to hers. "You could've saved me."
"It's all your fault."
And with that, his hand went limp and his head fell back against the ground as the breath left his body. "Dad?" Maya asked in fright as she gently shook him. "Dad! Please, no," she cried out, the tears freely falling now. "Come back to me. Don't leave me!"
"Dad!"
Maya shot up out of bed as an ear piercing scream escaped her lips. She sat up straight and fell quiet as she looked around the room widely. It wasn't until she finally recognized the room as her own bedroom, that her shoulders relaxed slightly.
She sat there for a moment before slowly bringing her legs up and towards her body. She hugged herself and quietly sobbed as she tried to calm herself down. She was drenched in sweat, but she couldn't stop herself from shivering cause of both fright and of how cold she was.
Maya took in a deep breath and repeated the action a few times until the tears had stopped and she was calmer than she had been when she woke up. Her eyes flickered over to the clock beside her bed and she sighed once she realized it was two in the morning.
