Maya hadn't been expecting to wake up. In all honesty, she thought she was dead. With a fall that long into a firey abyss below she should've been dead. So to say that she was surprised when she opened up her eyes to find herself all in one piece was an understatement.
She was lying on the ground when she opened her eyes and all she could see was fire. Even when she sat up, the only thing that surrounded her were the very flames she remembered falling into moments before everything had gone black.
Maya blinked in surprise and shakily looked down at her hands which were glowing orange from the Extremis. "What's happening to me?" She whispered in a frightened voice. If she could've cried, she would've, but the fire burned all of her tears away before they could so much as leave her eye.
Maya pushed herself up onto her feet before slowly walking out of the fire and wreckage. Her eyes trailed down her body as she walked out not the open and she shook her head in disbelief at the fact that she seemed to be fine.
Well, as fine as a glowing orange girl could be.
Maya was still in shock as she looked up and at her surroundings. More of the rig was in pieces and it seems as though everyone was practically gone. That was when she heard the groans coming from behind her and she turned to see her father on the ground trying to protect Pepper while a messed up looking Aldrich Killian hobbled over to him.
"No more false faces. You said you wanted the Mandarin. You're looking right at him," Killian said. Maya frowned and shook away her shock and horror of what she had become off before noticing a metal pipe on the ground. "It was always me, Tony. Right from the start."
Maya picked up the metal pole and walked over to where Killian, Pepper, and Tony were. "I am the Mandarin!" Killian screamed out and Maya scoffed before taking the metal pole and whacking the man as hard as she could.
He flew a few feet away and Tony and Pepper blinked in surprise before looking over at Maya who was standing there with glowing orange eyes and skin to match.
"Kid?" Tony whispered, his voice coming out in a choked voice. Maya let the pole drop down to her side and Tony just stared at her in disbelief. "I've got nothing," he admitted, not knowing what to say.
Before any of them could say anything else, an Iron Man suit began flying towards them, directing its blasters at Maya. "J.A.R.V.I.S., subject at my 12 o'clock is not a target, disengage!" Tony yelled.
When the Iron Man suit did nothing, Tony looked to his left and saw that the ear piece to communicate with J.A.R.V.I.S. was lying a few feet away. The Iron Man suit shot at Maya who quickly fell out of the way.
Pepper looked to Tony in annoyance as she stood up. "What? Oh, what, are you mad at me?" Tony asked as Pepper began to glow orange. She didn't answer him and instead propelled herself into the air before punching her fist through the center of the Iron Man suit and bringing it to the ground.
She then tore off the helmet and punched Killian, who had been trying to sneak up on them, in the face. Killian went flying and Pepper was quick to kick a small missile at him before shooting it with one of the Iron Man blasters.
Killian then blew up and Tony and Maya both looked at the explosion with wide eyes before looking at Pepper. "Honey?" Tony asked cautiously while Pepper turned to look at him. "Oh, my God. That was really violent," Pepper said as she walked over to Tony.
