Grace grabs my arm. 'What the hell was that?'
'What the hell was what?' I fling my arm free.
Lottie gives me a stern look as if to say, seriously.
I laugh nervously. "I really don't know what you guys are talking about. It was nothing."
"Well clearly it was something. Come on, what did he say?" Lottie said, clearly less excited than Grace.
"Really, guys, I'm telling you, nothing happened, we just talked." I reply forcefully.
"So you're telling me that this new guy, who's not to mention smoking hot, winks and flirts with you for a solid fifteen minutes and it's nothing?" Grace nudges my shoulder playfully. 'Oh, what I wouldn't give to be in your shoes."
I shake my head, exasperated, "Guys, come on, what's the big deal, it's not like I slept with the guy." Oh man, that's an image.
Grace instantly perks up "You might as well have, I could see you undressing him with your eyes." My eyes widen at her words.
"GRACE!" Horrified, I smack her in the arm.
"Hey! It's the truth." Grace turns to their friend for support, "Right Lottie?'
Lottie unfortunately didn't seem to be paying much attention to the conversation. She looks between the two of us.
"Sorry, what were you saying?"
"Just that Val was totally eye fucking Mr New boy in class." Grace smirks.
My face grows red, "I was not!"
Lottie sighs and shakes her head at us, "Don't you have more pressing issues to worry about, such as detention?"
Grace furrows her eyebrows in confusion, "Why is that an issue?" She's still rubbing her arm from when I smacked her.
I stop dead in the hallway, and my eyes grow wide with realisation, "Because I haven't told Jason yet."
Well, crap.
I wave my hands about in à panic,"He's gonna kill me! The social services are already hovering over us, and you know how protective he gets!" I pull my phone out of my pocket and tap on his contact, my phone starts to ring.
Ever since my mum passed away and my dad... well, stopped caring, it's just been my brother, Jason, and I. He's always been there for me, supporting me. He even dropped out of college, so he could get a job to support us. When I'm down Jason's the one who lifts me up. I'm counting down the days until i can start earning a living so I can help out, i hate seeing him so tired and run down all the time. He tries to put on a brave face for me, but i know he's overworked and struggling to make ends meet. It breaks my heart seeing him worried all the time. Jason doesn't show me, but I can still see the overdue bills stacked on top of the fridge, and the eviction warning letters from the landlord. It doesn't help that the social services are a constant looming threat, always ready to take me away. Any small infraction could be viewed as grounds to accuse Jason of being an unfit guardian.
I'm snapped out of my thoughts as I hear Jason's voice,
"Val, Valerie, what's wrong? Is everything okay?" he asks, worry eminent in his voice.
"Everything's fine", I reply with a nervous laugh. I hear a sigh of relief.
"So... why are you calling me during school?"
My palms are sweaty and my heart beats faster as I try to formulate a response. Shit, Jason's not gonna be happy about this.
"Ah, you see, um, so, well, i was in class and uh, I may have sortaspokerealloudlyandnowihavetostayafterschoolfordetention."
"What did you just say?" I can hear loud clanging noises through the phone, he must be working at the lumberyard. "Wanna repeat that?'
I let out a deep breath. "Jay, please don't be mad at me, but I got an after school detention for talking in class. I'm sorry." I play with the hem of my top nervously.
"WHAT!?, Val, what the heck?" he shouts.
"I'm sorry! Just... this guy was bugging me and I couldn't just not respond and let him win."
"Val, are you kidding me? Why couldn't you have just ignored him? You are just too stubborn for you own good sometimes." He pauses. "Wait, did you just say a guy?"
My eyes widen. Oops. Probably shouldn't have said that.
I laugh nervously. "Ha.. Goodtalkwellgottagoloveyoubye!"
I can hear his shout of 'Wait' as I press the hang up button. A sigh of relief escapes me. Well, at least that's over. Lottie taps me on the shoulder.
"Hey, we needa go or we're going to be late for class."
"Oh, coming." I say absentmindedly, trailing behind them.
Just as I'm about to walk into class, I come face to face with Mr. Bad Boy himself. Ugh. He gives me his signature smirk.
I groan, "What are you doing here?"
"Well, I came to see you of course." he winks, leaning on the doorframe.
I roll my eyes. "Sure, Sure. Well, you've seen me, you're now free to go."
He doesn't move.
"Gorgeous, i just got here, why would I want to go?"
I cross my arms, "Move, now."
Aiden just smirks at me and stays where he is.
At this point, I'm getting annoyed. I just want to get to class. A huff of annoyance escapes my lips and I try to push him backwards with the palms of my hand.
He doesn't move an inch, and he's still smirking that damn smirk. Dick. I roll up my sleeves and give him a good shove. He doesn't give, and I stumble back. What the fuck? Is this guy made of freakin steel?
'Hey, if you wanted to feel me up you should've just said so." he quips.
I growl in frustration and land a strong punch to his chest. Well, at least, I tried to.
"OW" I exclaim, clutching my hand to my chest, "What the hell!"
He lets out a loud laugh and his eyes twinkle with amusement.
I frown. "That actually hurts, you son of a bitch."
Aiden's loud laughter turns to chuckling. "Really? You okay?"
"I'm fine." I reply, haughtily. I cradle my hand close to my chest.
Aiden raises his eyebrows at me and carefully reaches over to take my hand. His face flashes with something that might be worry as he cautiously examines my hand with more concern than required. His long fingers dance across my hand and leaves a trail of sparks where his hand makes contact with mine.
I flush red and quickly snatch my hand back, "I'm okay, really, I overreacted."
Aiden smirks at me, "Are you sure?" He leans in closer. "I can kiss it better."
Annnd he's back. For a second there it actually seemed like he cared.
"No thanks" I scoff. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get to class."
I push him aside easily and send him one last glare before marching into the classroom. Laughter echoes behind me as I try to casually take a seat. His voice rings out behind me.
"Later gorgeous."
