Background
As an immortal she naturally ages very slowly so Mariah's parents have placed her in the protective care of Gwyn, a fallen fae. Gwyn feeds off Mariah's essence to power her magic, this causes Mariah to age faster like a human. Mariah is unaware of what she is but the family's plan is that when she turns eighteen she will return to her family. However, Mariah comes into her weather manipulation powers early as you will discover in Jewel of the sea causing all sorts of problems.
Weaknesses
Shy: Mariah has never felt right in her skin and it has left her feeling like a misfit. She lacks confidence and allows her best friend (and neighbour) Jace to take charge in situations. Mariah find it very challenging when one summer Jace moves across town and the school rearrange the classes resulting in them no longer being together.
Jealous: Mariah realises how much Jace means to her and when he starts talking about another girl (Kya), Mariah finds herself feeling jealous. Being Jace's friend becomes incredibly difficult and heartbreaking. Mariah also has a habbit of comparing her inadequacies against others and beating herself up.
Strengths
Swimmer: Mariah isn't aware why she is naturally so good at swimming and her unique ability to hold her breath under water a lot longer than anyone else.
Compliant: Mariah isn't a fan of trouble so she often does what she is told and is well behaved. It's only when she is upset and loses control of her powers that things go wrong.
