CHAPTER FIVE
Today was Friday, totally missed the whole lectures, because there wasn’t anyone to follow ne to class, plus I had to make use of the fact that there was light and ashed my clothes after the water was pumped. Earlier this was just about me and Mattew. And I saw Demi when I went to main campus to withdraw yesterday, and he made apropositon for me to come to night class today so that we could talk and get to know each other more, but I wasn’t sure I will go soi put him on a hold whether I will come or not, beside with me and Mattew getting close, I don’t think it is right to giving Demi wrong signal.
“I tell you, this Ibule light is annoying as hell, I wonder how people that live here survive like literally” said Ayomide
“Abi, I missed my estate light at Lagos” Said Gbemisola as usal chewing her gum
They sat down outside in front of our block, with Gbemisola loosening Ayomide long two-colored bob marley braids. I was just lying down on Pelumi’s bed but I could hear clearly from the window, cos my bunk is close to it.
“Eh he, so I layed bed for you to lie on top abi” Said Pelumi as she entered the room, the way shetried to sound harsh was funny
“you sounded like just the way Ife would have sounded if I was on her bed” We laughed.
‘Shiii” Pelumi placed her hands on her lips telling me to reduce my voice “YOU dopnt want her to come and hear you”“Leave that one jare” I said but deep down I know Ife is a bag of troubles and I don’t want her troubles at all so I kept quiet.
“Arent you feeling heat at all” Pelumi removed her gown, changed into a black underskirt,( like literally shes the only human that still wear that stuff) and sat down the bed, I was still laying down on it
I laughed “I don’t want to go outside because Ayomide will beg me to help loosening her hair”“Eh he I hear you Ore” Ayomide said “ Its not fair oo, don’t worry now, your own turn would soon reach”I came outside to meet them, and Ayomide just shoot me an angry glance
“Bae, hope you know I fixed and loosening weavon doesn’t take time”“Naso, me sha know that one day you will braid your hair”“Shet e dey pain you ni”“Come, Ore is heat not doing you ni”“What?” I asked confused because I was already outside “I don’t get you”“This one you are wearing head warmer na”UH!....Then I felt my head still puzzled and s=realized that I was actually wearing it,I just removed and held it on my hands>“I wore it to snap pictures ni jare, didn’t know that I haven’t removed it yet”They both laughed, I just shrugged my shoulder, rolling my eyes.
“Reminds me of one my undergraduate friend in LASU, he said the easiest way to know 100 level guy is that the guys will be wearing black hoodies, black socks, headwarmers, thick joggers under hot sun because say the cloth dey new” said AyomideWe all burst laughing including Pelumi, guess she was listening from our room.
“He even talk say some go dey wear black fur jacket to class oo, in the afternoon, to feel fresh”
We started another bout of laughter
“Black fur jacket, why now say na England” Said Gbemisola still laughing.
“Even our harmattan season no reach to wear fur cloth”I said and we all laughed.
We were still laughing when one girl from another block came in front of us, I let go of Ayomide hair which I didn’t realized that I was even helping to loosened.
“This one that you guy are laughing like this in this evening, share with me now” The girl said
Hmmmmm….awkward moment then because we just kept quite not knowing what to say until I spoke up.
“Nah, we just laughing bout some random stuff that’s all”“I see” The girl said and I stole a glance at Ayomide and I guess she was trying to control herself from saying something annoying at that moment.
“Uhmmm okay, Grace, how may we be of help” Said Gbemisola
“Baba said I should call Oreoluwa that her father dropped something for her” Grace said and tutrrned to me “Guess you are the one, you are the newst in this block” I creased my brow , because I don’t know how her knowing me as Oreoluwa connects with me being the newest in my block, beside its more than one month…duhhh!!!!! Not that new nomore. I just thanked her and she left.
“Hmmm, that girl was weird oo” Said Ayomide “ How did you even know her name sef”
Gbemisola snorted “We have spoken twice before now, and we are in SET together”I was like wow!, haven’t seen that girl before or sorry let me repharse that, Ive missed class a lot so yeah, I probably wouldn’t see her in class.
“Anyway, let me quickly go to baba’s place..”“Ogbeni chill out now, your ‘ERU’ will not misplace now, we will go later” Said Ayomide
I looked at Gbemisola unsure, she nodded and said “I will personally escorts you there”“Huh, what if we are not done with my hair kor” Said Ayomide
“What are you now saying that we will go after loosening your hair, you are not okay oo” I said dropping the strand of her hair I was loosening “Let me just go now sef”“Chill out sis, we will get someone else to help with it” Said Gbemisola
“Who?” Asked Ayomide
Gbemisola rolled her eyes “ Pelumi, Busayo, duhhh!”
And we continue loosening the hair for about an hour or so, it was like to 7and I tapped Gbemisola that we should go already. I went inside to get my phone and hairnet for Ayomide because she was like she wants to follow us.
On our way there, like we were in front of the block besides us, my dad called… s**t!! I forgot im supposed to called him to thank him after getting what he sent....well I ahvent got it yet, but well duhh I stll was supposed to. He asked if I have gotten it, I replied yes and thanked him. Then he went to asked if I have called my mum and ruined my mood. I managed to twist my answer and said I will call her this night. It was almost a miracle how I managed to end the call on a cheerful note as I picked it.
“Why you always like this each time your mum name is mentioned or something” Asked Ayomide concernedly
“Yeah, I noticed that like twice or so, whats wrong” Gbemisola also asked
******Uhhmmm I get....
