Chapter 6

Bumping Runs In the Blood

The next morning, when Edward woke up from his deep slumber, he got a call from his dad the first thing in the morning.

Hello Edward? Are you up?”

“Yes Dad. I’m up and I’m just getting ready for work. Any specific reason for your call?” Edward asked Patrick.

“Yes of course son. I just wanted to say that today you should take the day off and just work from home because you aren’t needed in the office today. Call Mr. Howard and discuss everything about the Crawford Deal with him. Plan the meeting, when it should take place, the venue, refreshments and absolutely everything. Remember son, this deal is very important for our company. I will take care of everything here today.” Patrick replied through the phone.

“Father you don’t have to worry about anything. I will make sure that we get this deal by any means. And you know how convincing and controlling I am in business? With me on this job, there is no way Howard can refuse the deal.” Edward answered, smirking proudly.

“I know son. If there was any fault in your business handling ability, believe me, this job would be somebody else’s right now.” was Patrick’s smart answer which was successful in wiping the smirk right off Edward’s face.

“Okay okay father. I will do it now. Bye.” Edward replied and hung up the phone.

He showered and got ready and stepped out of the bathroom. Quickly he descended the stairs of his penthouse’s bedroom and went downstairs to the living room where his housekeeper, an elderly lady called Margaret, had his breakfast ready.

“Good morning Mar. How are you doing today?” Edward asked her, sitting down on a chair.

“I’m fine son. I’ve prepared your favourite breakfast today. I hope you enjoy It.” she said.

“I’m sure I will.” Edward replied, smiling as he took in the Spanish double cheese omelette and chocolate chip pancakes with maple syrup poured on top, lying on the table before him. “Goody this looks delicious.”

Margaret started laughing and replied, “Thank you dear. And I was wondering if I could leave early today. I have to accompany my grandson to the new carnival that has opened just recently.”

“Sure you can Mar. Hey did you say carnival?” Edward asked as he gulped down the pancakes, licking the syrup off his bare fingers.

“Yes son. It’s held near 5th Carterson Street. My grandson has been pestering me to take him there ever since it was advertised in the newspaper.”

“Wow! Maybe I should take Jake there with me.” Edward suggested. Jake was Edward’s ten year old nephew.

“Yes son. Adam’s been too busy to spend much time with his son. Take Jake with you. He will have some fun.”

“So it’s decided. I will call Adam and ask him whether it’s fine after my business call with Howard. Even I haven’t seen little Jake for a long time.” Edward said, finishing the rest of his breakfast. He gulped down his water and got up from his chair ready to make the call.

“Hello Mr. Howard? This is Edward here. Edward Frost. I’m ready to discuss the Crawford Deal...” and Edward drowned out in his call.

Meanwhile, Annabelle was having a tough time concentrating on her work in the office. She was trying to make sense of some files but then her mind kept wandering somewhere else. With frustration, she slammed her hands down on the table.
