Chapter 19
Stella McAnderson Returns
Edward
I happily entered the airplane. Climbing inside, the first thing I did was switch off my phone and then I planted my butt on the comfortable seats of the humongous jet. The air hostess quickly prepared me a drink and placed it on the side rest of my seat. She said, "Welcome to you private flight, sir. We'll be taking off for New York in a few minutes, so kindly fasten your seat belt."
I smiled at her politely and obliged. After fastening the belt, I laid back in my seat.
Picking up the glass, I took a huge sip and moaned at the familiar feeling of the light alcohol washing down my dry throat. The air hostess -whose name I learnt was Elena -returned with a batch of freshly baked cookies and biscuits in a china tray. I grabbed one and took a giant bite. It was pure deliciousness. Pressing a button on the side remote, I felt my seat changing position into a comfortable as well as suitable for takeoff one.
Sigh! This was the life.
But of course this life was about to get better as I was going to be reunited with my Belle in a matter of hours. I would reach back in New York by the time Annabelle would be having her lunch in the office.
I hadn't told her yet about my early arrival. It had been a hell of five days but thankfully my work got cleared up earlier than expected so here I was, on my way to NYC.
My plan was perfect. I would first go buy some Swiss Arabian chocolates and a few other goodies, they always impress a girl and Annabelle loves to eat. After that, I'd go into the office during her lunch break and hide in her cabin until she returns. She's been having her lunch with this Marcus guy lately. Now that I'm back, there won't be any need to do that, since she'll have me.
As I was wondering, when she comes back into her cabin, I'll jump out of my hiding place and surprise her. Then give her the little gifts and yet another surprise with a romantic dinner in my apartment, just the two of us watching her favourite movies and doing nothing but cuddling on the couch.
I went through every single detail again to make sure my plan was perfect. After assuring myself a hundred times that it was pretty awesome, I downed the rest of my drink and went to sleep.
I woke up again to the air hostess' announcement about my flight landing. Wearing my seatbelt, I switched on my phone and saw 23 missed calls from Annabelle and over 18 messages and another 15 voicemails.
I opened the latest one to hear her frantic voice, 'Edward, you have to call me now. I'm damn scared that something has happened to you. We always talk before I leave for work, and during my lunch break. Where the hell are you? I really need to hear your voice now Ed.'
I frowned, not knowing that my absence or slight unpunctuality in answering her calls bothered her to this extent. She sounded desperate.
Well, that calls for a change in plan. I think I'll drive straight to the office instead of roaming around for gifts. She was never that much of a materialistic person anyway.
The plan landed and I quickly made my way outside. With just my phone in hand, I made my way inside the airport and quickly registered my flight's safe arrival. In a thrice, I was out the door and in my car, gazing at one of Annabelle's pictures on my phone.
Turning to the driver, I said, "Drive me straight to the office. I think I'll skip the gifts part."
The car stopped outside the office and I quickly made my way inside the building muttering 'hello's to a few of the people. My heart was beating with anticipation of seeing my girl after so long. Sure it has been just five days but to me it was more than forever.
