Chapter 2

Technical Difficulties

" You should get a pet, Emrys." Jackie told petting the cat, which sat purring on her lap. I looked away from the foggy window of the compartment we had managed to grab before anyone else. " I'm good." I muttered making a face at the cat which hissed at Cass as she tried to pet it, causing to her yank her hand back wide-eyed. " I've been wondering, " Spencer said. " In our first year, Harry saved you from Voldemort, didn't he?"

" Yeah, he did." I responded

" Why were you down there in the first place?"

I was silent as I thought back to that night before getting up and going over to pull the blinds closed on our compartment door. " Emrys?" Cass asked concerned and I sat back in my seat with a sigh. " He wants me to join him. He thinks that because he's my father, that I will willingly side with him without a second thought. In our first year, he sent me a letter for Christmas, offering me the choice. It's pretty clear though that if he does get to me..." I trailed off and my friends shared a look.

" You wouldn't do that right? Side with him?" Jackie asked.

" Of course not." I said. " If I sided with him, we wouldn't be friends anymore. He'd either kill you three, or make me do it. I could never hurt you guys."

" And if we weren't your friends?" Cass asked with a frown.

" I still wouldn't do it." I swore. " I hate him. I hate everything about him, and I wish that he wasn't my father." There was anger in my voice now. The train came to an abrupt halt and we looked around in confusion as the light suddenly went out.

" My bad?" I said unsure before it suddenly started to get very cold, ice started to crawl up the window next to me, and as we breathed it showed it the air between us. " Okay, that's not me." I muttered, now worried. We heard movement in the corridor outside, but the four of us remained where we were. " There's something out there." I heard Spencer whisper, being the closest to the door. He jumped back as he it began to open and my eyes widened at showy figure that hovered there. Theodore began to hiss at it as it seem to look around out compartment, before stopping as it spotted me.

A feeling of dread began to creep over me, every negative feeling I had ever had seemed to rush back and I found myself getting light headed. " Emrys?" Jackie's voice echoed from somewhere before I suddenly myself lying on the floor with my friends standing over me in concern. The lights were back on, the creature was gone, and the train was moving again.

" What happened?" I asked as I sat up, and Cass helped me back into my seat.

" You fainted." Spencer told me, holding something out to me, which I took. It was a piece of chocolate. " The new teacher made the dementors go away." Jackie said.

" There was more then one?" I asked, nibbling on the sweet with a frown.

" Yeah, one went after Harry to, he's in the compartment next to ours." Spencer said. " Professor Lupin said he'll be alright."

" We should put on our robes, we'll be arriving soon." I said and they agreed.

Several minutes later, I was on my way back to the compartment, dressed in my brand new Emerald green Slytherin robes with my wand safely tucked away in my sleeve. I stopped in front of the compartment where Harry sat with Hermione, Ron, Ginny, and Neville Longbottom. " Are you alright?" I asked Harry as I pushed open the door; I knew that I had already been told he was fine, but I wanted to make sure. Harry stared at me with a frown, but nodded. " Yeah." He said.

I turned to walk away, but stopped when he asked. " Emrys, can we talk once we're at Hogwarts?" I glanced back at him, before nodding in response and stepping into my compartment where my friends sat waiting for me.
