Chapter 10

Out Passed Curfew

My friends and I had just reached the Quidditch Pitch when Harry ran over to me already in his Quiddtch gear. " Harry, what are you doing? The game is going to start soon." I asked in confusion.

" Can I talk to you for a moment?" He asked.

" We'll wait for you in the stands, Emrys." Jackie said, before the three of them walked away. Once they were gone, I raised an eyebrow at Harry, who I noticed was looking a little worried. " Emrys, if the dementors-"

" You can do it, your better then you think." I told him.

" Just incase, could you-"

" Yes, you can count on me to swoop in and save your Gryffindor butt." I teased and he gave me a look. " Slytherins." He grumbled walking away and I smirked before climbing the stairs that led up into the stands.

" What did Potter want?" Cass asked.

" You'll see." I responded and they exchanged a look. They soon found out, because as Harry was closing in on the snitch, three dementors appeared on the field. I was just reaching for my wand, when Harry whipped out his own and yelled. " Expecto Patronum." A large silvery figure appeared from the tip of it, and at the same time he managed to grab the snitch. " What was that?" Jackie asked and I grinned as Spencer answered her question. " A Patronus. He conjured a Patronus."

It was after our Hogsmeade trip a few days later, that Cass sorrowfully told us that Buckbeak had been sentenced to die. We managed to convince her not to murder Malfoy...alone.

" I'm dropping this class." I told Spencer and Cass as we took our seats. " It's nothing but rubbish."

" Why did you take it in the first place?" Spencer demanded, being the only one of the three of that actually enjoyed Divination. I didn't respond as Professor Trelawney began our first lesson on crystal gazing. Cass ended up falling asleep again on the table, and I leaned back in my chair with a huff as I stared at the large glass ball, my eyes drooping in bored. I snapped out of my daze as Hermione stormed out of the classroom, and Cass let out a snort as she to was startled awake so suddenly that she nearly knocked the ball off it's pedestal.

I was on my way back to the common room with Spencer and Cass, when I caught Cass trying to sneak away. " Where are you going?" I asked and she looked away. " Buckbeak is to be executed today, I wanted to be there for Hagrid, and to say goodbye."

I shared a look with Spencer, before letting out a sigh. " I'll go with you." I told her and surprise crossed her face. " You don't have to-"

" What are friends for?" I shrugged and she smiled at me in thanks, before we bid Spencer goodbye and started off back up toward the entrance hall leading out toward Hagrid's hut. It was almost sunset, so we weren't really supposed to be out, but neither of us really cared as we hurried across the grounds. " How do we never get caught?" Cass asked in wonder. " We've snuck out several times, how is no one ever around?"

" I've often wondered that myself." I agreed we slowed to a walk. Cass knocked on the door of his hut, and a moment later, it opened slightly an Hagrid peaked out at us. " Emrys, Cass, what are you doing down here?"

" I wanted to see Buckbeak, you know, one last time. If that's alright?" Cass said and Hagrid gave her a sad look before letting us in. The door had just closed behind us when Harry, Ron, and Hermione appeared out of thin air. Cass stared at them in shock and I rolled my eyes. " It's called an invisibility cloak, Cass."

" You knew he had it?"

" He's Harry Potter, I'm surprised by anything anymore when it comes to him." I muttered giving Harry a look, who shrugged before we sat down. " Found Scabbers, I see." I told Ron who was holding his very old rat tightly in his grasp.

" Where is he, Hagrid?" Cass asked.

" He's outback, be quick though, I don't want you getting in trouble for being out this late." He told her, and she hurried out the back of the hut with a frown, but a second later she hurried back in. " They're coming."

Hagrid hurried us out the back door, and into the garden of pumpkins. The five of us waited until Dumbledore, the minister, the committee member, and the executioner all disappeared into the hut, before hurrying up toward the castle, but nothing could have stopped what we heard next.

The swish of a large axe, and a dull thud.
