Chapter 9
Summer Plans
Harry and I left the room together in silence but when we reached the staircases, Harry asked. " So, what were you so happy about earlier?"
" Oh, just the fact that I can do a spell my father can't." I said with a smirk.
" Really? How do you know?" Harry asked.
" Before I was born, Voldemort told my mum a lot of things about him. His school life, how powerful he was, his plans. He trusted her more then anyone."
" I find that hard to believe." He admitted and I looked away. " He trusted her, because he thought that fear would make her stay. He might have been pleased that he was going to have an heir, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't willing to hurt me to make her cooperate."
" Is that why she left?" He asked and I shrugged. " Mum doesn't say much about it, so I've mainly had to piece the information together myself."
" How old were you when-"
" Almost 2" I responded. " Before our first year, I have no memories of him. My mom left the night he.." I trailed off and he seemed to understand. " So, is that what you meant by owing me?"
" Yep." I said with a small smile, glancing down the steps. " Well, goodnight, Harry." I told him before starting down the stairs, stopping only when he called out." I don't hate you."
I smiled before continuing down the steps, a weight lifted off my shoulders.
The lessons continued over the next several days, though at times I spent most of the lesson watching Harry, while also frustratingly trying to work on my Ancient Runes homework. During one lesson, he brought us some Butterbeer. It was also during this lesson, that Harry asked about what lie under the hood of a Dementor. Lupin explained that it was how they delivered their kiss, and sucked out someone's soul.
Several days later, I snuck out of the Common room before anyone else was awake, and made my way out of the castle and onto the grounds. It was the 14th of February once again, and just like last year, I was in a bad mood. " Stupid holiday, why does it have to be on my birthday." I grumbled, just before Quinn flew down and landed next to me with a large box clutched in her talons. I frowned at the box before gently petting the bird, and giving her a letter. " Thanks Quinn." I told her, before she flew off.
Once she was gone, I undid the cord on the box, and opened it to find that my mom had sent me some sort of book. I opened it, and found that each page had been written on. I read one of the pages, and found that it had been written by my mum. I had often found her writing in a journal like this, but she would never tell what she was doing with it. I guess I knew now.
I put the book away for later, deciding to leave it until I had time, and hurried up to the castle for breakfast. I found my four friends waiting for me , they didn't ask why I had snuck away, but the moment I sat down I found myself covered in confetti. " Happy birthday." Jackie cried as I blinked at three smiling friends, as they slid a small muffin toward me. " We know you hate your birthday, but-" Cass started to say but Spencer cut her off. " We thought we would celebrate it anyway, and I know the perfect way."
We all stared at him in confusion, apparently even Jackie and Cass didn't know about this. " I know this guy, he works in the ministry, and isn't really much of a Quidditch fan, so he offered to give me his ticket for the Quiddtich world cup this summer."
" Quiddtch World Cup." Jackie muttered in awe, before Cass and Jackie looked at me with a pleading looks. " Alright." I sighed, and they squished me into a hug, before we gathered our things and started toward class.
