Chapter 3

Seeing The Unseen

" I think I might actually kill my cousin this year." I muttered glaring toward Malfoy, who sat further down the table. " Not if I get to him first." Cass said glaring  at the blonde.

" You can borrow Persephone." Spencer told us before adding. " Speaking of this year, it's gonna weird not having you guys in class."

" Agreed." I told him before grinning. " Get ahold of that schedule yet?"

Spencer's hair burned pink, like it often did, and Cass snickered before asking." So, why do you think Emrys passed out?"

" Can we not talk about this please." I pleaded but the two of them ignored me.

" Well, Dementors feed on negative emotions, and Emerys is a very negative person, so it's possible that it was just drawn to her wonderful personality." Spencer told Cass, in a matter-of-fact tone. My eyes narrowed at them before I frustratingly stabbed at the food on my plate without a word. The two of them continued to exchange words until it was time to head for the common room, we bid Jackie goodnight in passing before heading down toward the dungeons in silence.

The next morning, I trudged down to the Great Hall with Cass and Spencer, and Jackie frowned at me as I thunked my head on the Hufflepuff table sleepily. " I hate mornings." I grumbled.

" Your the one who wanted to stay up midnight with your nose stuck in that Ancient runes book." Cass said loading a plate with food and sliding it toward me. We were each taking our regular classes with the three extra this year. I had enrolled myself in Ancient Runes, divination, and Care of Magical creatures which was the only class that the four of us had together.

" It's interesting." I mumbled into the table before lifting my head to glare at her, and she rolled her eyes at me. We looked over as Malfoy walked over with his minions, Crabbe and Goyle. " I heard you fainted on the train, Cousin."

" Malfoy, one more word out of you, and I'll feed you to my book." I snapped pouring myself a glass of pumpkin juice.

" I just wanted to make sure you were alright." He said with a frown and my eyes narrowed. " What do you care?"

" We're family, and father wanted me to make that-"

" Malfoy." I said turning on him. " Buzz. Off." I growled

" Emrys-"

" Did you hear her? She said go away." Cass snapped at him and he turned on her. " No one asked you, Mudblood." I would have hit him, had Cass not beat me to it. She knocked him to the ground and we all stared at her in shock, but before any of could say anything Snape approached looking very annoyed. " Malfoy, get off the floor, that's what benches are for."

" But-"

" Detention." Snape said before walking away and Malfoy stared after him before turning to look at the four of us as we exchanged smirks. He walked away and Cass sat back down with a huge grin on her face.

" so, what do guys have first?" I asked looking over my schedule. " I've got Divination."

" Same." Said Cass and Spencer.

" I have Arithmancy." Jackie sighed.

" Separated again." I muttered as we headed for the east tower without Jackie. The three of us sat at the same table after climbing the silver ladder into the classroom, where a lady with large spectacles greeted us and introduced herself as Professor Trelawney. As she explained the lesson, she began to point out random predictions. Cass started to doze between Spencer and I, and Spencer rolled his eyes at her before elbowing her as we went to each grab a teacup off the shelf.

Once we were all seated again, Professor Trelawney filled our cups and instructed on what to do once we had finished. The three of us exchanged teacups (moving left so that I had Spencer's, Cass had mine, and Spencer had Cass') and I flipped over Spencer's with a frown. " Um...your going to face a hard truth...but you'll be happy about it?" I told Spencer unsurely, who shrugged before turning over Cass's cup. " You will suffer a great loss." Spencer told Cass and the three of us exchanged a look before Cass started to reach for my cup, only to jump when Professor pulled it from her hand.

The teacher inspected the cup with a thoughtful expression. " The skull and the cross." She whispered quietly setting down my cup, before moving away. I raised an eyebrow and Spencer leaned closer. " Your path is dangerous and will lead you to many trials and a lot of suffering." Spencer told me and I rolled my eyes before leaning forward with an annoyed look. " This class is ridiculous."

" Easy O then." Cass said with a shrug.

" You guys are so going to fail this class." Spencer sighed

" Take it back." I said
