Chapter Seven: The Necromancer

*Doctor's POV*

After the Seer and the Master had their row, and the Seer stormed off to their TARDIS, going to cry about something none of us understood, there was silence. Amy, Rory, and I glanced awkwardly at each other and turned our gazes to the Master, who was staring at the silver door between the time machines in complete and utter confusion.

"I told her that I died because I loved her. Why would she run away?" I had never seen a face more miserable and confused. I looked helplessly at my companions and decided to say something in the hope it would help.

"Maybe she feels that you love her more than she does you." I said, and knew instantly I had made a mistake. The Master gritted his teeth in sadness and fell to his knees, staring at the ground. We stayed like that for a few minutes, until we heard a noise that made all four of us reel in shock.

We heard the Seer's terrified and pained scream.

The Master and I were at the door at the same time, fear giving us almost unnatural speed. But by the time we finally reached her bedroom, it was too late. She was gone, and only a few tiny spots of blood on the floor remained.

"NO!" Koschei screamed in grief. He raged and punched the wall, cracking the skin of his knuckles and leaving bloody marks on the metal walls. While my brother-in-law had his temper tantrum, I examined the scene more closely.

I noticed a tiny scrap of paper on the floor, next to one of the blood droplets. With trembling fingers, I picked it up and read the message. Shock raced through me, my head began to spin. "No." I whispered.

Amy, who had run in by now, frowned. "Why? What's wrong?"

My head span more, making me dizzy. "He's dead. He can't have taken her, he can't."

The Master finally noticed that I was on the verge of collapsing from shock. "What do you mean, Doctor? Who?"

Shock had taken over my system by then, and as much as it humiliated me, I couldn't stop myself from falling into a faint. Because there was no way on Gallifrey that Trellya's little twin brother was alive. He had vanished, died, hundreds of years ago.

After I woke up (it couldn't have been longer than a minute), I noticed the Master looking frightened. I realized that he must have found and read the note. I stared straight into his eyes. "We have to get her back. Before it's too late."

He nodded. "I know."

"Do you know who it was that took her?" I asked in a quiet voice. Tren, Trellya's twin brother, was a subject we rarely told anyone.

He shook his head. "No."

My eyebrows raised in surprise. "She didn't tell you about her own twin brother?" The Master's mouth opened in shock. He looked like he wanted to speak, but I cut him off. We didn't have much time. "Tren, her twin brother, went insane when he gazed into the Untempered Schism. He became obsessed with the idea of bringing back the dead, and learned the art perfectly. He ended up going even more mad with his power, and then he vanished. We all assumed that he was destroyed by his work, and we didn't try to find him. He was too dangerous."
