Chapter Five: The Soul Inside
*Doctor’s POV*
I caught her just before her head crashed onto the floor of her TARDIS. Trellya’s eyelids fluttered slightly, as though she were having a dream. I was shaken, I had to admit it. Her last words before she had passed out haunted my thoughts. What, Doctor, do you have around your neck? She couldn’t have known about the Seer’s pocket-watch. Not even Amy and Rory knew about it.
The Master had run over next, and he practically tore her from my arms. It made me smile slightly, watching my brother-in-law cradle his amnesiac wife. I’d forgotten how kind and loving he was with her…
I was shaken from my thoughts by poor Amy and Rory, who had been completely forgotten in the chaos. “Er, Doctor, is she alright?” Rory asked nervously, scratching the back of his neck and looking as though he wished to examine her.
“Yes, yes, I’m sure she’ll be fine.” I muttered absent-mindedly as I consulted the Seer’s soul in the watch for advice. What she gave me was not comforting.
It is time, brother. She has been separated from the remainder of her soul for far too long. If you do not place the watch around her neck and open it, she will die. A body without a true soul cannot survive. I am sorry that I will not be able to watch over you any longer, but I will be there in a true body.
What? Sister, you’re talking nonsense! I protested, staring at the chain around my neck where the soul of my sister lay inside a watch.
The Seer made an annoyed noise. Her hearts are fading. Do it- now! Or do you want to face my husband’s grief-stricken wrath once more, after he began to grow better?
I hesitated, remembering the puffy eyes and furious gaze of the Master the last time something similar to this happened. I took the watch off of my neck and slowly lowered it over her pale face. I wanted to hold onto the chain forever, but I forced my hands to let go. I looked up at the Master, who looked worried. “Open it.”
“What?”
“Open the watch.” I whispered, lowering my head in sorrow at the loss of my sister’s ever-present being in my mind. As selfish as it was, I almost wanted Trellya Smith to die.
The Master opened the watch with trembling hands, and a pale silvery-golden light flowed out of it, pouring into her mouth, her ears, her eyes, until the watch lay there, empty and no longer ticking. Trellya’s eyes fluttered open groggily, and she instantly brightened.
“Took you long enough, Theta. If you hadn’t been so possessive of my soul, I probably would have gotten my memories back a long time ago!” She said cheerfully.
The Master stared at his wife in shock. “So- you have your memories back?” He sounded apprehensive, afraid.
She grinned at her husband and kissed his cheek lovingly. “Yes, my love. I remember now. I remember everything. Our dates, our marriage, the children…” the Seer smiled sadly and kissed Koschei again, this time on the lips. “I remember how much I love you.” She said quietly.
The Master grinned, and I knew how he felt. After 500 years, they were finally together again, and everything was alright. I could tell that the neverending rhythm of the drums had faded almost to nonexistence in his happiness and love, and that he had become less the Master and more the Koschei my sister had grown to love.
Amy cleared her throat, and everyone looked at her and Rory, feeling slightly guilty that we had forgotten them yet again. “Um, I’m sorry to interrupt, but can you please tell me how the Seer finally got her memories back?”
